Abstract: Disclosed in certain embodiments is a lubricating oil composition comprising an antioxidant polymer (e.g., oligomer) composition comprising repeat units of diphenylamine monomers of formula I wherein R is H, C1-C18 alkyl, C2-C18 alkenyl, C2-C18 alkynyl, —C(O)C1-C18 alkyl, —C(O)aryl and R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each independently H or a linear or branched C1-C18 alkyl, C1-C18 alkoxy, C1-C18 alkylamino, C1-C18 dialkylamino, C1-C18 alkylthio, C2-C18 alkenyl, C2-C18 alkynyl or C7-C21 aralkyl and wherein the number average molecular weight (Mn) of the polymer composition is from about 350 g/mol to about 5000 g/mol.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for in-situ determination of engine oil viscosity to allow for selection of an engine map by an engine control module (ECM) to match the detected viscosity. The new engine map selected based on the viscosity can correspond to an engine map based on an engine oil with a different HTHS viscosity than the prior engine map. Instead of requiring a reprogramming of an ECM when the engine oil is changed, an ECM can have access to a plurality of engine maps corresponding to different engine oils at a given HTHS viscosity and/or at different HTHS viscosities. The ability of an ECM to select an engine map corresponding to a different HTHS viscosity based on in-situ viscosity detection can allow the oil in an engine to be changed without requiring access to the ECM for reprogramming.

Abstract: Provided are lubricating engine oils including a lubricating oil base stock as a major component having a base oil viscosity at 100 deg. C. ranging from 4.5 to 7.5 cSt, and a carboxylic functionalized polymer dispersant with aromatic amine functionality, as a minor component, wherein the lubricating engine oils have a cold crank simulator viscosity at −30 deg. C. of less than 8500 mPa·s. The lubricating engine oils may provide improved engine wear protection at equivalent fuel efficiency or improved fuel efficiency at equivalent engine wear protection compared to a lubricating engine oil containing a dispersant as a minor component other than the carboxylic functionalized polymer with aromatic amine functionality. Methods of making the lubricating engine oil are also provided. The lubricating engine oils are useful in internal combustion engines including direct injection, gasoline and diesel engines.
