Abstract: There is provided a liquid crystal display including: a liquid crystal cell in which a liquid crystal layer is installed between two glass substrates; polarizing plates on both surfaces of the liquid crystal cell; and a backlight at a rear side of the liquid crystal cell, which is a non-visual side, wherein in a polarizing plate at a front side of the liquid crystal cell, which is a visual side, a difference in a moisture content of the polarizing plate at the front side under a specific condition in elapse of time is 0.01% or more and 3.0% or less.

Abstract: Provided is a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal cell having a liquid crystal layer between two glass substrates, a front-side polarizing plate provided on a front side of the liquid crystal cell, a rear polarizer provided on a rear side of the liquid crystal cell, and a backlight provided on a rear side of the rear polarizer, in which the front-side polarizing plate has a first protective film, a polarizer, and a second protective film in this order from a surface side opposite to the liquid crystal cell, the first protective film in the front-side polarizing plate is a film including a polyester resin or a polycarbonate resin as a main component, an Re of the first protective film is 3000 nm or higher, an equilibrium moisture content of the second protective film at 25° C. and a relative humidity of 60% is in a range of 1% to 3%, and in the second protective film, a contractile force in a direction orthogonal to an absorption axis of the polarizer is 1.3 times or higher a contractile force in a direction parallel to the absorption axis of the polarizer which is capable of suppressing luminance unevenness at the four corners of the panel when a backlight is turned on after the liquid crystal display device has been stored in a hot and humid environment.

Abstract: Display performance can be improved by reducing light leak in an oblique direction at the time of black display while increasing front brightness. Provided is a backlight unit including: a light collimating member in which a lens array is formed on one surface of a transparent substrate and a plurality of truncated cones are arranged on another surface of the transparent substrate; a light guide plate; and a light source, in which the truncated cone on the light collimating member has a shape in which a width decreases away from the transparent substrate in a height direction, a position of each of lenses of the lens array deviates from a position of the truncated cone corresponding to the lens to move away from the light source in a direction that connects a center of the lens and the light source most adjacent to the lens, an optical axis of the lens is arranged to pass through a slope of the truncated cone corresponding to the lens, the light guide plate and a surface of the truncated cone opposite to the transparent substrate are in contact with each other, and the shape of the truncated cone of the light collimating member satisfies specific expressions.

Abstract: A phosphor-containing film capable of suppressing deterioration of phosphor and capable of suppressing generation of luminescent spots and the reduction in luminance due to a defect of the resin layer. The film includes: a phosphor-containing layer having a resin layer which has impermeability to oxygen and is provided with a plurality of discretely arranged concave portions, and a plurality of fluorescent regions, each of which is arranged in the concave portion of the resin layer and contains a phosphor that deteriorates through a reaction with oxygen when exposed to oxygen; and a first substrate film and a second substrate film, which are respectively laminated on one main surface and the other main surface of the phosphor-containing layer, in which the fluorescent regions contain a binder and quantum dots serving as the phosphor.

Abstract: A fingerprint recognition sensor having an excellent S/N ratio and capable of realizing thinning and an optical element including the fingerprint recognition sensor. When linearly polarized light of near infrared light orthogonal to the absorption axis is radiated from a normal direction of the optical element and from a direction inclined by 45° from the normal direction at an azimuthal angle orthogonal to the absorption axis, an absorbance during the radiation from the direction inclined by 45° from the normal direction is more than an absorbance during the radiation from the normal direction.

Abstract: A phosphor-containing film contains a phosphor such as a quantum dot and is capable of suppressing deterioration of phosphor even where the film is formed into a laminated structure; and a backlight unit including the phosphor-containing film as a wavelength converting member. The film includes: a phosphor-containing layer in which a plurality of fluorescent regions, each of which contains a phosphor that deteriorates through reaction with oxygen when exposed to oxygen, are discretely arranged and a resin layer having impermeability to oxygen is arranged among the plurality of the discretely arranged fluorescent regions; and a first substrate film and a second substrate film, which are respectively laminated on both main surfaces of the phosphor-containing layer, in which the resin layer has a Knoop hardness of 115 N/mm2 to 285 N/mm2, a creep recovery rate of 22% or less, and an elastic recovery rate of 60% or more.
