A method is provided for video sharing in a vehicle-to-entity communication system. Video data is captured by an image capture device of an event remote from a source entity. A spatial relationship is determined between a location corresponding to the captured event and a location of a remote vehicle. A temporal relationship is determined between a time-stamp of the captured scene data and a current time. A utility value is determined as a function of the spatial relationship and the temporal relationship. A network utilization parameter of a communication network is determined for broadcasting and receiving the scene data. A selected level of compression is applied to the captured scene data as a function of the utility value and available bandwidth. The compressed scene data is transmitted from the source entity to the remote vehicle.

One or more of the secondary clear path detection modules are selectively enabled for identifying the clear path. The selectively enabled secondary clear path detection modules are used to identify the clear path of the road of travel in the input image. A fusion module collectively analyzes the clear path detection results of the primary clear path detection module and the selectively enabled secondary clear path detection modules for identifying the clear path in the input image.

A method and system for vehicular clear path detection using adaptive machine learning techniques including reliable local model updating. Digital camera images are segmented into patches, from which characteristic features are extracted representing attributes such as color and texture. The patch features are analyzed by a Support Vector Machine (SVM) or other machine learning classifier, which has been previously trained to recognize clear path image regions. The SVM classifier is adaptively updated using reliable local test samples, such as positive clear path samples which just passed by the vehicle. The resultant classifier, being continuously and adaptively updated with recent, reliable training samples, exhibits improved performance and accuracy in analyzing subsequent image regions or patches for the existence of a clear driving path.

Output from the original, offline trained classifier and the additional, adaptively-updated classifier are then used to make a joint decision about clear path existence in subsequent image patches.

The segmented top-down image represents a viewing angle perpendicular to a ground plane. The segmented regions of the segmented top-down view are input to a classifier for identifying the clear path regions of travel. The identified clear path regions are utilized for navigating the road of travel.
