    摘要: A piston for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The piston body has two pin bores for receiving a piston pin. At least one rib is disposed on the second side and extends outwardly therefrom. The at least one rib is aligned laterally between the two pin bores in a direction along the piston pin axis. The at least one rib has a longitudinal axis extending generally perpendicular to both the reciprocation axis of the piston and the piston pin axis. A piston having a boss extending approximately within the piston pin radius of the piston pin axis, and a piston having a boss generally following the contour of the piston pin are also disclosed. An engine having the piston is also disclosed.

    摘要: A light weight piston for an internal combustion engine is disclosed that minimizes the stresses found in a transition area between the piston head and the associated piston pin bosses while maintaining a flexible soft connection between the piston skirts and the piston head. The piston includes a pair of piston skirts having tapered edges. Flared connecting walls are provided such that the distance between the connecting walls is minimized adjacent a pair of piston pin bosses and the distance between the connecting walls is maximized adjacent a portion of the tapered edges. The connecting wall flares in a generally outward direction such that at least a portion of the inner surfaces of the connecting wall has a generally convex curvature.

    摘要: A boat has a hull, a deck having a deck floor, and an engine disposed in the hull. A top of the engine is disposed vertically below the deck floor. The engine includes a crankcase, a crankshaft, a pair of cylinder banks connected to the crankcase at an angle relative to each other. A transom extends generally vertically upwardly from a rear portion of the hull. A stern drive unit is connected to the transom and is operatively connected to the engine through the transom. In another aspect, a marine engine has a crankcase, a cylinder block, and a crankshaft. An output shaft is disposed vertically above the crankshaft. The output shaft is disposed at least partially internal to the engine. A drive, internal to the engine, is operatively connected to the crankshaft and the output shaft. A driveshaft coupling is disposed on the output shaft.

A starter ring gear is disposed on an end portion of the crankshaft. A diameter of the starter ring gear is less than a width of the crankcase. A starter motor selectively engages the starter ring gear and is disposed such that the starter ring gear is disposed between the crankcase and the starter motor.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine includes a crankcase, a cylinder, a piston, a crankshaft, and a piston connecting rod. A counterweight connects to the crankshaft through a counterweight connecting rod. The counterweight pivotally connects to the crankcase. The engine is constructed such that the crankshaft drives the counterweight less than 180 degrees out of phase with the motion of the piston. A center of gravity of the crankshaft is offset from the crankshaft's axis and moves out of phase with the piston by less than 180 degrees. The offset counterweight and crankshaft balance out inertial forces in the engine to reduce engine vibrations and improve engine performance.

    摘要: A crankcase (1) is described for a combustion engine with cylinders arranged in V formation that is divided into two parts (2, 3) along a plane of separation (4) going through the axis of the crankshaft (6), such halves connected with each other by means of bearing screws (9) at right angles to the plane of separation (4) on either side of the crankshaft bearing (7), and by means of cylindrical adapters (12), which lock into fitting drill holes (13) provided between the two case halves (2, 3). In order to achieve beneficial construction conditions, it is proposed that the adapters (12) running parallel to the axis of the crankshaft (6) lie in the plane of separation (4) and are each penetrated by one bearing screw (9). In a second embodiment, the adapters (12) are positioned between two of the bearing screws (9) on each side of the crankshaft bearing (7).
