The method includes recording a signal that includes a first peak occurring substantially at a start of a free flight of the arrow and a second peak occurring substantially at a moment of impact of the arrow with the target, the start of the free-flight occurring when a proximate end of the arrow reaches substantially a neutral position of the bow string; processing the signal to determine a duration of the free flight of the arrow; determining a distance between a location from which the arrow is loosed and a location of the target-face; and determining the instantaneous speed of the arrow, at least in part, by employing each of the duration of the free flight and the distance.

摘要： A method provides a visual reference for establishing an archery sight setting for an archery sight employed when aiming a bow. The method includes receiving, with the touch screen display, a user-input identifying at least one feature of selected archery equipment, the selected archery equipment including the archery sight and the bow and establishing, by the processing device, the archery sight setting based at least in part on at least one feature identified by the user-input, the archery sight setting established to provide a desired level of accuracy for the selected archery equipment. The method also includes outputting, by the processing device, the archery sight setting for display in the touch screen display and employing the archery sight setting as a visual reference for adjusting the archery sight to locate at least one sight pin at a height to provide the desired level of accuracy for the selected archery equipment.

The method includes training for the sport with a sensing system included in the projectile, where flight characteristics of the projectile remain substantially unchanged with the sensing system included in the projectile relative to the flight characteristics of the projectile as used in competition without the sensing system. The method also includes evaluating at least one flight characteristic measured by the sensing system when the projectile is employed with the sensing system, and if the act of evaluating finds that adjusting at least one physical characteristic of the projectile may assist in improving the participant's performance, changing the at least one physical characteristic.

The system includes a sensing system configured for inclusion in an item of athletic equipment, a database and a feedback module included the handheld device. The sensing system is configured to measure performance data when the item of athletic equipment is employed by the athlete in performing the athletic act. The database is configured to store performance data for items of athletic equipment previously employed by athletes. The feedback module is configured to wirelessly receive the performance data measured by the sensing system. The feedback module accesses the database including the stored performance data and generates a recommended adjustment for the athlete based on the identification of the item of athletic equipment, the measured performance data and the stored performance data.
