    Abstract: A ketosilane of formula is prepared by reacting a silyl acyl chloride of formula with an alkylaluminium halide of formula R1AlY2, where Y is a halide substituent; R is a halogen-substituted or halogen-unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon radical, or an alkyl radical substituted with an OR11 group, where R11 is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical free of aliphatic unsaturation or a monovalent radical free of aliphatic unsaturation and consisting of C, H and O atoms with each O atom attached to two carbon atoms; R1 is an alkyl radical, m=0, 1, 2 or 3, a=integer from 2 to 10 and p=0, 1, 2 or 3 and is no larger than m. Ketosilanes of formula XnR3- nSi(CH2)aCOR1 where X is a halogen atom, an alkoxy radical, aryloxy radical, acyloxy radical or a substituted or unsubstituted amine radical, n=1, 2 or 3 are claimed per se. Cyclic organopolysiloxanes of formula (R[R1CO(CH2)a]SiO)x where x = an integer from 4 to 16 are also claimed per se. Examples describe the preparation of (1) 5-(trimethylsilyl)-2-pentanone and a disiloxane of formula [CH3CO(CH2)3Si(CH3)2]2O (2) gamma - (trimethylsilyl) - 3 - hexanone, (3) a disiloxane prepared from gamma (chlorodimethylsilyl) butyryl chloride, (4) beta-(dichloromethylsilyl)-2-butanone and a cyclic polysiloxane of formula (R1112SiO)x, where x=4 to 16 and R111 is a monovalent organic radical, prepared from it, (5) dimethyl-polysiloxane and but-3-one-yl methylpolysiloxane prepared from 4 - (dichloromethylsilyl) - 2 - butanone and dimethyldichlorosilane and (6) 4 - (chlorodimethylsilyl) - 2 - butanone and gamma- (ethoxydimethylsilyl) 2-pentanone.
