Abstract: A system and method are provided for controlling a wind turbine. Accordingly, a controller of the wind turbine detects a loss of traction of the slip coupling between a generator and a rotor of the drivetrain of the wind turbine. In response to detecting the loss of traction, the controller overrides a generator torque setpoint to alter a rotational speed of the generator. In response to the altered rotational speed of the generator, the traction of the slip coupling is increased. Increasing the traction of the slip coupling facilitates an application of generator torque to the drivetrain of the wind turbine.

Abstract: A method for controlling an electrical power system connected to a power grid includes receiving a reactive power command and a measured reactive power and generating a reactive power error signal based on a difference between the reactive power command and the measured reactive power. Further, the method includes receiving, via a reactive power regulator, the reactive power error signal. Moreover, the method includes generating, via the reactive power regulator, a voltage command based on the error signal. The method also includes generating, via a droop control, a voltage droop signal. In addition, the method includes generating a voltage error signal as a function of the voltage droop signal and at least one of the voltage command or a measured terminal voltage. Thus, the method further includes generating, via a voltage regulator, a reactive current command based on the voltage error signal.

Abstract: An electrical system for a wind turbine having a reduced uptower footprint and method for achieving the same are provided. Accordingly, the electrical system includes a plurality of electrical subsystems having a plurality of electrical subsystem assemblies. At least one electrical subsystem assembly is integrated with the generator housing. Additionally, the electrical subsystem assembly is coupled between the stator or the rotor of the generator and the generator output connection. The electrical system incorporating the electrical subsystem assembly with the generator housing has a reduced uptower footprint relative to a nominal design of an electrical system.

Abstract: Systems and methods for operating a power converter with a plurality of inverter blocks with silicon carbide MOSFETs are provided. A converter can include a plurality of inverter blocks. Each inverter block can include a plurality of switching devices. The plurality of switching devices can include one or more silicon carbide MOSFETs. A control method can include providing, by a control system, one or more gating commands to a first inverter block in the plurality of inverter blocks. The control method can further include implementing, by the control system, a gating command delay to generate a first delayed gating command based at least in part on the one or more gating commands. The control method can further include providing, by the control system, the first delayed gating command to a second inverter block in the plurality of inverter blocks.

The electrical power system further includes a subsystem breaker configured with each of the electrical power subsystems, and a cluster transformer for connecting each cluster of electrical power subsystems to the power grid. The electrical power system further includes a cluster power path extending between each subsystem breaker and the cluster transformer, and a distortion filter electrically coupled to the cluster transformer. The distortion filter reduces harmonics in current flowing from the electrical power subsystems to the cluster transformer.

Abstract: Systems and methods for grounding power generation systems with silicon carbide MOSFET power converters are provided. A power generation system can include a power generator comprising a multiphase rotor configured to generate multiphase alternating current power at a first voltage and a power converter comprising one or more silicon carbide MOSFETs and an isolation transformer. The power converter can be configured to convert the multiphase alternating current power from the power generator at the first voltage to multiphase alternating current power at a second voltage. The power generation system can be electrically grounded to shunt a leakage current associated with the isolation transformer of the power converter to a ground.

Abstract: A system for automatic generation control in a wind farm is provided. The system includes a wind farm controller for controlling the plurality of energy storage elements. The wind farm controller receives an automatic generation control set point from an independent system operator, generates a farm-level storage power set point for the wind farm based on the automatic generation control set point, generates individual storage power set points for the plurality of energy storage elements based on states of charge of the respective energy storage elements, and controls the plurality of energy storage elements based on the individual storage power set points for dispatching storage power to perform automatic generation control.
