Abstract: A method is disclosed for operating an internal combustion engine having a turbocharger and an exhaust gas recirculation pipe fluidly connecting an exhaust system to an air intake system upstream of a compressor of the turbocharger. A first value of a parameter indicative of the density of a mixture of fresh air and exhaust gas in the air intake system is determined. A flowing of exhaust gas through the exhaust gas recirculation pipe is interrupted if the first value is lower than a first reference value thereof.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for controlling fuel injections by a fuel injector in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine. First and second fuel injections are applied in each cycle of a piston in the cylinder. First and second electronic control signals are applied to the fuel injector to generate first and second fuel injections by the fuel injector during a first cycle of the piston. A hydraulic fusion state of the generated first and second fuel injections is determined. A parameter of the applied first and second electronic control signals is adjusted in response to determining the hydraulic fusion state and applied to the fuel injector to generate first and second fuel injections by the fuel injector during a second cycle of the piston subsequent to the first cycle.

Abstract: A method for automatically operating a cam-driven pump is disclosed. The pump is monitored to determine whether a specified detachment condition or potential detachment of an actuator of the pump from a driving cam is occurring. The pump is operated in a minimal pressure holding mode to provide a minimal pressure within a working chamber of the pump so as to bias the actuator towards the cam if it is determined that the detachment condition is occurring.
