Abstract: A rotor for a reluctance machine includes a rotor body having cavities defined by inner surfaces of the rotor body, a filler disposed within the cavities, and an adhesive coating that covalently bonds the filler to the inner surfaces of the rotor body. The adhesive coating exhibits a composite structure including a continuous matrix component and a discontinuous organic component dispersed throughout the matrix component, wherein the matrix component comprises an inorganic siloxane network and the organic component comprises a plurality of organic groups bonded to the inorganic siloxane network. The adhesive coating is formed on the inner surfaces of the rotor body by depositing a precursor composition on the inner surfaces of a rotor body and exposing the precursor composition to a plasma. The precursor composition comprises an organofunctional silane or a hydrolysate thereof.

Abstract: A battery enclosure for a battery system includes a reinforcing layer including reinforcing fibers, a shielding layer, and a thermal protection layer. At least one of the reinforcing fibers, the shielding layer, and the thermal protection layer is consolidated using a thermoplastic resin into one of a body and a cover of the battery enclosure. The shielding layer is arranged on one side of the one of the body and the cover and the thermal protection layer is arranged on opposite side of the one of the body and the cover.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a multi-layered and multi-functional thermoplastic composite structure includes supplying a plurality of reinforcing layers including continuous reinforcing fibers and thermoplastic resin to an intermittent press; and supplying at least one functional layer to the intermittent press adjacent to the plurality of reinforcing layers. The at least one functional layer is selected from a group consisting of an electromagnetic shielding layer and a thermal runaway protection layer. The method includes heating and pressing the plurality of reinforcing layers and the at least one functional layer to form a composite laminate.

Abstract: A charging system includes a mobile charging apparatus having a charging plug configured to connect to a charging port of a vehicle for charging a battery in the vehicle, and a control module in communication with the mobile charging apparatus. The control module configured to receive a charging request signal from a vehicle control module of the vehicle or a user device, in response to receiving the charging request signal, determine a location of the charging port of the vehicle, and control the mobile charging apparatus to move adjacent to the charging port of the vehicle based on the determined location of the charging port. Other examples charging systems and methods of controlling mobile charging apparatuses are also disclosed.
