Abstract: A thermal barrier component for an electrochemical cell (e.g., a battery) includes a mat, a functional material, and a polymer binder. The mat includes a porous matrix. The functional material is in pores of the porous matrix. The functional material includes an oxide. In certain aspects, the functional material may be a composite material. The polymer binder is in contact with the porous matrix and the functional material. At least one of the porous matrix, the functional material, and the polymer binder is configured to serve as an intumescent carbon source. The oxide is configured to catalyze thermal degradation of the intumescent carbon source to form intumescent carbon at a first temperature. The first temperature is greater than or equal to about 300° C. The thermal barrier component is configured to mitigate thermal runaway in an electrochemical cell. The thermal barrier component may include one or more layers.

Abstract: An environment interactive system includes: a first camera capturing first images of an area external to the vehicle; a second camera capturing second images of an area interior to the vehicle; a telematics control module determining a geographical location of the vehicle; a viewing device displaying items adjacent to, on or in front of detected objects and in a FOV of an occupant. The items correspond to the detected objects; and an infotainment module. The infotainment module: detects the objects based on the first images and the location of the vehicle; based on the second images, tracks at least one of a location of an eye of the occupant or a location of a body part of the occupant other than the eye; and based on the location of the eye and the location of the body part, displays the items via the viewing device in the FOV.

Abstract: A system includes a battery pack module and a control module. The battery pack module is configured to be implemented in a battery pack. The battery pack module includes cells and one or more force sensors configured to generate at least one force signal indicative of force on the cells within the battery pack module. The control module is configured to: receive the at least one force signal; based on the at least one force signal, detect a state of the cells; and based on the detected state of the cells, at least one of i) modify the state of the cells, ii) generate an alert message, and iii) perform a mitigation operation to address a detected abnormality of the cells.
