Abstract:
Methods and systems for presenting multiple images of entities associated with media items in a media list are provided. A method may include identifying a first entity associated with a first media item in a media list. The first media item may be associated with a first time period. A second entity associated with a second media item may be identified in the media list. The second media item may be associated with a second time period. Next, from a database of entity images, a first image of the first entity may be selected based on the first time period and a second image of the second entity may be selected based on the second time period. As a result, the first image and the second image may be presented in an interface during activation of the media list.
Abstract:
Systems and techniques are provided for intelligently streaming portions of media at higher quality over a limited bandwidth connection. Media may be received. The media may be one of a video and an audio track. The media may be divided into sections with a section start and a section end. Each section of the media may be scored based on an attribute of the section to obtain a priority score for each section. A first section of the media may be sent to be rendered on a remote device at a first quality. A second section of the media may be sent to be rendered on the remote device at a second quality. A portion of the second section may be sent concurrently with the first section. The second section may have a higher priority score than the first section. The second quality may be higher than the first quality.
Abstract:
A method for automatically undoing an action in a music player application is provided. A method includes storing a first state in a media application. The first state may include at least one of: a list of one or more media items listed in a first order, and a first time position in a first media item of the one or more media items. An action changing the first state to a second state may be received. Next, a request to undo the action changing the first state to the second state may be received, and the first state may be restored based on the stored first state. The method may also include presenting a list of one or more prior actions and each prior action may change the media application to a corresponding state different from a preceding state.
Abstract:
Techniques, systems, and computer readable media are provided that allow for portions of media items to be cached, prior to selection of any media item for playback by a user. The portion of a media item to be cached is determined based upon one or more caching factors, such as the likelihood that a user will select the media item for playback. Playback of a media item thus may begin without any noticeable buffering or caching, immediately upon selection of the media item by the user.
Abstract:
One or more segments of media content are designated for rendering at a higher quality when possible over a connection having a bandwidth that is too limited to support streaming of the entire media at that quality. Some of the media is streamed at a lower quality, leaving some bandwidth available for pre-streaming higher quality segments that can be wholly or partly cached before they are due to be rendered. When the higher quality content is to be rendered, the cached segment data can be used to render the segment at the higher quality to the user.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for identifying a current configuration of graphical representations displayed in a user interface presented by a computing device, each of the graphical representations being associated with a respective computer-executable application, determining at least one usage signal corresponding to each of the graphical representations, the usage signal reflecting user interaction with the respective associated computer-executable application, determining one or more success metrics indicative of an efficiency of the current configuration of graphical representations, generating, using an optimization technique, a modified configuration of graphical representations based on the usage signals and the one or more success metrics, and presenting, in the user interface, at least a portion of the modified configuration of graphical representations.
Abstract:
Implementations of the disclosed subject matter provide techniques for operating a media application in an incognito mode. A method may include operating a media application in a first mode and providing a first indication of a first user action in the media application to a media application provider. Next, an instruction may be received to operate the media application in a second mode. A second indication of a second user action may be received in the media application and the second user action may be performed. Then, the second indication of the second user action may be discarded without providing the second indication of the second user action to the media application provider.
Abstract:
Systems and methods to capture, in a first device, a sample of audio data streaming from a server, transmit the sample to the server, and receive, in the first device, access to a secure service provided by the server when the server verifies that the first device is at a location of the audio based on the sample.
Abstract:
A system, computer program product and method for dynamically digesting one or more user notifications based at least in part on one or more rules are disclosed. In some implementations, the system includes a notification receiver module, a rule application module and a notification digestion module. The notification receiver module receives notifications including a first notification. The rule application module obtains rules for determining a send condition including a delay time and a maximum delay time, sets the delay time and the max delay time, determines whether another notification is received within the delay time, resets the delay time responsive to another notification being received within the delay time, and repeats the determination and delay time reset until a send condition occurs. The notification digestion module, responsive to the send condition occurring, digests the notification(s) received prior to the send condition and sends a digested notification to the user.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for using second screen devices to augment media engagement metrics. In one aspect, a method includes accessing user activity data describing user activities performed by a user on a first user device during a first time period, and accessing data describing presentation of one or more content items during the first time period on second user devices. For the first user device, determining based on the user activity data, for each of a plurality of second time periods that are sub-periods of the first time period, a first level of user engagement with the first user device, and determining, based on the user activity data, for each second time period that is a sub-period of the first time period, a second level of user engagement with the one or more content items presented.
