Abstract:
A welding machine for welding attachments to base members on a high speed production bases and wherein provision is made for rapidly feeding one or more of the attachments relative to each base member and for precisely positioning the attachments and base members relative to one another prior to and during a welding operation.
Abstract:
A combination press apparatus for preparing partially formed cylindrical metal shells for welding of their end gaps wherein a workpiece operating station within a frame has a horn carrying first and second dies, a first ram having a die for forming is disposed adjacent to the first horn die and a power actuator moves the first ram toward the horn to form the shell ends adjacent the gap. A second ram disposed on the opposite side of the horn carries a closure die and a power actuator moves the second ram toward the horn to compress the opposite side of the shell against the second die to close the end gap. The first ram die may carry a cutter which acts in association with a cutting slot on the first die to trim the ends of the shell adjacent the gap. Lifting apparatus, including a self-centering arrangement, carries the shell and moves it into and out of the operating station surrounding the horn. The self-centering arrangement allows the shell to be moved eccentrically with respect to the horn for action by one of the rams or the other and the shell returns to the concentric position when the respective ram is retracted.
Abstract:
A cylinder-forming method and apparatus is disclosed in which a pre-cut blank of strip material is positioned against a locating abutment and clamped within a rotatable mandrel. As the mandrel is rotated, first and second guide means form the blank to the periphery of the mandrel with flattened end portions being formed on the blank adjacent an end gap. Gripping means seize the blank before unclamping the mandrel, and thereafter transfer the formed blank with its gap in a known predetermined position into the jaws of an electric flash welder wherein the ends of the blank are joined by welding.
Abstract:
APPARATUS FOR RADIAL COMPRESSION FORMING OF METAL ARTICLES IS DESCRIBED IN WHICH A PLURALITY OF RADIALLY CONTRACTABLE DIE JAW SEGMENTS IN A SHRINK-FORMING DISPOSED IN A HORIZONTAL PLANE VERTICALLY ABOVE A WORKPIECE FEEDING STATION WITH AUXILIARY TOOLING ALSO BEING CONTAINED OPTIONALLY WITHIN THE HEAD. THE SHRINK-FORMING HEAD AND TOOLING ARE CARRIED ON TRUNNIONS FOR ROTATION ABOUT A HORIZONTAL AXIS TO ALLOW ACCESS AND MAINTENANCE TO THE DIES AND TOOLING.
Abstract:
A welding machine and procedure for welding attachments to base members wherein provision is made for checking the products discharged from the welding station both for the presence of a welded attachment and the adequacy of the weld, and for signalling the detection of a defective condition.
