    摘要: A valve assembly is disclosed which partitions a conventional syringe into proximal and distal chambers to provide a multi-chamber, sequentially dispensing syringe apparatus. Incorporated in the valve assembly is a valved stopper having a valve (e.g. a slit valve) and a separator which filters out gas from liquid being dispensed through the valve assembly. A syringe plunger communicates through fluid in the proximal chamber to force displacement of the valve assembly. The valve is actuated by differential pressure of a force greater than the valve assembly displacement force. The valve assembly may be made from two parts: (1) a valved stopper (may be molded from basic syringe plunger material); (2) a separator (may be injection molded from syringe barrel material). Key features of such a multi-chamber syringe apparatus are (1) fluids in the chambers are kept disparate; (2) the valve assembly may be used in conventional syringes; (3) gas in a closed chamber is filtered from delivered liquid; (4) bi-stable operation of a valve assembly valve permits reflux free operation; (5) a clinch in the separator holds the valve securely closed until the valve is opened by a predetermined action, such action being tactilely sensible. A tubing set is disclosed which may be added to provide a third disparate chamber.

    摘要: A valve assembly is disclosed which effectively partitions a syringe into proximal and distal chambers to provide a multi-chamber, sequentially dispensing syringe apparatus. The valve assembly may be effectively used with a variety of standard, currently available commercial syringes and pre-filled syringes. Incorporated in the valve assembly is a valved stopper having a valve (which may be a slit valve), an impact sensor which opens the valve upon impact between the valve assembly and internal distal end of the syringe and a gas separator which separates liquid from gas disposed in the proximal chamber to assure gas is not delivered therefrom. The valve assembly is displaced as a plunger of the syringe is displaced via communication through fluid in the proximal chamber of the syringe. The actuator has a latching feature which latches the valve to an open state after being opened by the impact sensor. The gas separator has a proximally disposed orifice which facilitates priming. The valve assembly may be made from two parts. One part, a valved stopper, may be molded from the same rubber based material used in syringe plunger stoppers. The second part, the valve actuator, may be injection molded as a single part. A synthetic resinous material which is compatible with manufacture of living hinges my be used for the second part. Multiple valve assemblies may be used in a single syringe barrel.

The finger grips make the slide clamp easier to use while reducing the risk of error. The tubing support members reduce the likelihood of improperly loading the tubing and reduce the risk of kinking the tubing during use. An infusion set is provided wherein the slide clamp may be coded through the use of colors, holes, or the like so as to identify the type of infusion tubing used therewith. The infusion pump can identify the code on the slide clamp and thereby determine the type of infusion tubing, and thereby allow access only to infusion programs for drugs or infusion solutions which are compatible with the particular type of infusion tubing.

    摘要: A safety, over-the-needle midline catheter, designed generally for insertion distal to the antecubital crease to be threaded proximally to a site just distal to the axilla. An accompanying safety apparatus is employed which permits only proximal displacement of an associated needle cannula into a safety housing. The catheter has an internal lumen of constant diameter and a proximally disposed taper which in conjunction with the constant internal diameter, provides a wall thickness which effectively resists kinking and associated closure of said lumen which might result from bending of an elbow when a portion of the catheter is disposed at the cubital crease. A butterfly is disclosed which has a collet having a superiorly disposed slit and lips associated with the slit which are sufficiently thin and supple to permit the catheter to be separated from the collet (and butterfly) while wings of the butterfly are disposed upon skin of a patient. Apparatus and methods are disclosed for assisting threading the catheter through difficult anatomical pathways.
