Abstract:
A cutting tool has a cutting head which is removably secured to an adaptor of a tool holder. Upon replacement of the cutting head the adaptor remains fixed in the tool holder. In addition to the adaptor, the cutting tool includes a shank in which the adaptor may be retained, and a retaining element configured to form a sub-assembly with the adaptor without being threadingly engaged thereto. The retaining element is positioned and configured to limit rotation of the adaptor about a longitudinal axis of the tool.
Abstract:
A rotary cutting tool comprises a cutting head which is axially secured to a forward end of a shank by a locking screw. At least one radially extending locking wing of the locking screw is located in at least one radial recess of the cutting head or at least one radially extending passage is formed between the locking screw and the cutting head.

Abstract:
A metal cutting tool is provided with at least one cutting insert mounted in an insert pocket in communication with an adjusting mechanism, the cutting insert comprising at least one insert adjusting slot extending between two opposing major faces thereof and opening out to each major face at an adjusting aperture and the adjusting mechanism comprising at least one adjusting member having an adjusting member top face underlying the cutting insert while being visible and accessible therethrough.

Abstract:
A cutting tool (10) includes a cutting portion (14) and a clamping mechanism (16) configured to be brought between an unclamped position in which a cutting insert (12) is removable from the cutting portion (14), and a clamped position in which the cutting insert (12) is clamped to the cutting portion (14). The clamping mechanism (16) includes a clamp (20) and a cam shaft (18). The clamp (20) is formed with a growth pattern region (20C6) having a varying diameter. The cam is formed with a growth pattern region (18C1) having a varying diameter. The growth pattern regions (20C6, 18C4) are configured for engaging each other to transform rotary motion of the cam shaft (18) into linear motion of the clamp (20) to thereby move the clamping mechanism (16) into the clamped position.
Abstract:
A cutting insert (14) is formed with an insert aperture (32) opening out to insert top and bottom surfaces (14A, 14B) of the cutting insert (14). In a plan view of the insert top surface (14A), the cutting insert (14) and the insert aperture (32) both have oblong shapes which are elongated along a common insert longitudinal axis (AIL). The aperture (32) includes first and second side surfaces (32A1, 32A2) which each extend along the insert longitudinal axis (AIL), and aperture first and second end surfaces (32B1, 32B2) which each extend transverse relative to the insert longitudinal axis (AIL). At least one of the aperture first and second end surfaces (32B1, 32B2) is formed with a clamping lip (32C1, 32C2).
Abstract:
An indexable cutting insert has opposing rhombus-shaped upper and lower surfaces and a peripheral side surface therebetween with alternating obtuse and acute corner surfaces. A nose cutting edge is formed at the intersection of the upper surface with each of the two acute corner surfaces. The lower surface includes a base surface from which a central boss and exactly two engagement ridges protrude. Each engagement ridge extends from the central boss to intersect with its respective acute corner surface, and the base surface is divided into two base sub-surfaces. The insert may be clamped against a seating surface of a tool holder pocket solely by the engagement ridge located closest to the operative nose cutting edge making contact with a corresponding single engagement groove, and the two base sub-surfaces making contact with two coplanar raised support surfaces.
Abstract:
A cutting tool assembly has a tool holder, a tool head and a tool head fastening member. The tool holder includes holder front and top ends, with a holder mating surface extending therebetween. A holder clamping portion is located rearwards from the holder mating surface. The tool head has a tool head bottom end provided with a tool head mating surface. A tool head clamping recess extends upwards from the tool head bottom end, rearwards from the tool head mating surface. In an assembled position of the cutting tool assembly, the tool head mating surface forms a dovetail connection with the holder mating surface, and the tool head fastening member clamps the tool head clamping recess, thereby externally clamping the tool head to the tool holder.
