    摘要: A fully synchronous longitudinal position (LPOS) detection system is provided for improving the reliability of servo channels in tape systems. The system is based on the interpolation of the servo channel output signal, which is sampled by an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) at a fixed sampling rate, using a clock at a nominal frequency, so that interpolated signal samples are obtained at a predetermined fixed rate, independent of tape velocity. This predetermined fixed rate is defined in terms of samples per unit of length, as opposed to samples per unit of time, which is the measure of the ADC sampling rate. The resolution with which the servo channel signal is obtained at the interpolator output is thus determined by the step interpolation distance.

    摘要: Provided are a read channel, storage drive and method using a measured error to determine coefficients to provide to an equalizer to use to equalize an input signal. A read channel is incorporated in a storage device to process signals read from a storage medium. An equalizer uses coefficients to equalize input read signals to produce equalizer output signals. A detector processes adjusted equalizer output signals to determine output values comprising data represented by the input read signals. An equalizer adaptor is enabled to provide a reference measured error and coefficients used to produce the adjusted equalizer signals that are associated with the reference measured error. The equalizer adaptor computes new equalizer coefficients to use to equalize input read signals that result in a new measured error from the detector and computes a new measured error for the new equalizer coefficients. The equalizer adaptor determines whether the new measured error is degraded with respect to the reference measured error and saves the new equalizer coefficients and the new measured error in response to determining that the new measured error is not degraded with respect to the reference measured error. The equalizer adaptor provides the equalizer coefficients associated with the reference measured error to the equalizer to use to equalize input read signals in response to determining that the new measured error is degraded with respect to the reference measured error.

The fractionally-spaced equalizer forms a synchronous equalized signal. The read channel further comprises a gain control module interconnected with the fractionally-spaced equalizer, and a sequence detector interconnected with the gain control module.

An equalizer sums products of a plurality of tap signals from a delay line sampling a read signal and a plurality of corresponding tap coefficients to form an equalized signal in an asynchronous time domain having a first sampling rate. A leaky function module calculates a leaky function for each tap coefficient in the asynchronous time domain. An adaptation module adapts each of the tap coefficients as the leaky function for each tap coefficient summed with a signal-dependent updating function for each tap coefficient.

The generator generates a cyclic dibit response vector as a function of the DSS sequence and the DSS readback sequence. The generator further generates an error signal as a function of a comparison of the DSS readback sequence and a filtering of the DSS sequence based on the cyclic dibit response vector.     摘要: A read channel equalizer of a magnetic tape drive which equalizes digitally sampled magnetic signals detected by a read head is dynamically adapted. A detector of equalizer dynamic adaptation logic compares equalizer output signals to desired values that are based on the decoding scheme (such as +2, 0 and −2 for PR4) to sense equalizer output signals that are offset from at least one desired value, and signals the fact of each offset and its polarity as amplitude independent error signals. The signaled sensed amplitude independent error signals are fed back to adjustable taps of the equalizer. The simplified error signals thus avoid complex calculations of waveform errors, such as least mean square calculations. The error signals may be weighted and may be adjusted to align synchronously provided error signals with asynchronous taps of the equalizer.

An asymmetry cancellation component in communication with an analog-to-digital converter receives an analog signal representing data read from a storage medium by a read head. The asymmetry cancellation component receives a digital signal from the analog-to-digital converter representing data read from the storage medium and computes an error signal indicating an asymmetry in the digital signal. The computed error signal is used to determine a coefficient. The digital signal is adjusted using the coefficient to produce a corrected digital signal.
