摘要: Cross-track deviation of a writer from a predetermined track on a recording medium is detected. A write current is adjusted based on the cross-track deviation of the writer from the predetermined track. The adjusted write current is applied to the writer to compensate for the cross-track deviation of the writer from the predetermined track.

摘要: A magnetic write head having a magnetic cross yoke arranged to provide a cross magnetic field in a pole tip region of the magnetic head. The cross field, which is perpendicular to the magnetization of write pole, reduces the switching time of the write field, thereby increasing the speed with which the write head can record data. The write head can be a longitudinal write head or a perpendicular write head. In the case of a perpendicular write, the write head can include a write pole arranged to provide a magnetic write field that emits a magnetic field substantially perpendicular with an Air Bearing Surface (ABS). A magnetic cross yoke is formed having ends that are disposed at opposite sides of the pole tip region of the write pole.

摘要: According to one embodiment, a control device includes a writer, a setting module, a reader, and an Iw sensitivity acquiring module. The writer writes a signal by the magnetic head. The setting module sets an electric parameter to the magnetic head. The reader reads the signal by the magnetic head. The Iw sensitivity acquiring module acquires Iw sensitivity of the magnetic head. The Iw sensitivity acquiring module includes a first acquiring module, a second acquiring module, and an Iw sensitivity calculator. The first acquiring module acquires a predetermined output value related to control of a signal having a predetermined frequency. The second acquiring module acquires a predetermined output value related to control of the signal having the predetermined frequency. The Iw sensitivity calculator calculates the Iw sensitivity of the magnetic head based on the predetermined output values acquired by the first and second acquiring modules.

摘要: Embodiments of the invention provide a countermeasure against spike noise maintaining the data reliability of a magnetic recording layer. In one embodiment, the magnetic domain state right below and around the read head of the soft magnetic layer in the recording medium is locally and temporarily equalized using the write head, whereby, the effect of the spike noise caused by the magnetic domain boundaries (magnetic domain walls) of the soft magnetic layer on the read waveform is prevented. The read retry action of the magnetic hard disk drive is used as the trigger for the timing of the magnetic field application, thereby shortening the time for the magnetic field application.

摘要: An apparatus and method for demagnetizing a write head of a disc drive. Under control of a clock oscillator, synthetic demagnetizing pulses are generated and applied to a writer-driver bridge. Also under control of the clock oscillator, a write current produced by the writer-driver bridge incorporates the demagnetizing pulses and ramps down to about zero. The train of demagnetizing pulses and the write current ramp down demagnetizes the head, reducing write head magnetic bias that may influence the proximate read head of the disc drive head.
