    摘要: A finishing machine comprising a rotatable housing, which is preferably but not necessarily resiliently mounted, comprising: a finishing chamber for receiving and finishing parts with finishing media when the housing is in finishing position, a storage chamber adapted to receive media from the finishing chamber when the housing is rotated to a parts-separation position, a foraminous member for separating media from parts, apparatus for rotating the housing about a substantially horizontal axis from a finishing position to a parts-separation position and return, and apparatus for transfer of media from the storage chamber to the finishing chamber upon return of the housing from parts-separation position to finishing position, wherein the finishing chamber comprises an annular spinner member and complementary tub member, the spinner member being adapted to rotate about a generally vertical axis when the housing is in finishing position, and a rotational motion-producing assembly and associated drive operatively associated with the spinner member for rotation thereof, whereby the spinner member may be rotated with respect to the tub member for carrying out a finishing operation; a vibratory device for vibration of the foraminous member when the housing is in parts-separation position for separation of media from parts; and a parts exit associated with the foraminous member for exit of finished parts when the housing is in parts-separation position and under the influence of the vibratory means, is provided.

    摘要: A vibratory finishing machine having a fixed frame and a floating support resiliently mounted thereon, a finishing chamber mounted on the floating support, a gyratory motion-producing assembly affixed to the support eccentrically mounted on a shaft and a motor operatively coupled thereto. The finishing chamber is divided into two parts, one part rotatively mounted and having at least an inner vertical wall, and a stationary portion affixed to the floating support. A second motor is mounted in fixed relationship with the floating support and operatively coupled to rotate the rotatably-mounted portion of the chamber. The rotational or centrifugal rotation of the rotatably-mounted portion of the chamber provides greatly improved finishing efficiency of the apparatus. Additionally, the gyrational motion of the chamber produced by the first motor and accompanying eccentric weights may be used to provide automatic discharge of the parts, and may also be used for finishing parts operated either by itself or in combination with the centrifugal rotation produced by rotating the rotatable portion of the chamber.

The finishing chamber and the part-isolating means are reciprocally movable with respect to each other first for a limited distance in a forward direction, and then for a limited distance in a rearward direction generally of the same magnitude. During movement in the forward direction the partitions are disposed intermediate the parts. At the end of the limited forward distance the partitions are removed from their positions intermediate the parts and remain in said removed positions during the rearward movement. At the end of the rearward movement for said limited distance the partitions are returned to their positions intermediate the parts and are ready to begin a succeeding cycle.

    摘要: A gyratory finishing machine, of the type in which the finishing units gyrate about a common center and advantageously rotate about their own axis, is provided with loading and unloading means for loading and unloading selected finishing chambers without stopping the gyration of the other finishing chambers. This is generally accomplished through a null-point producing means for establishing a null-point relation between the selected finishing chamber and the loading and unloading means. The null-point can be established by bringing the selected finishing chamber to said common center, or by causing said loading and unloading means to gyrate in unison with the gyration of the selected finishing chamber. The loading and unloading can be effected while the selected finishing chamber is at the common center or by transferring the selected finishing chamber from the null-point to a remote loading station.

    摘要: The application discloses abrasive finishing chips suitable for use as abrasive media in finishing processes and apparatus for the finishing of parts and workpieces, comprising abrasive grains dispersed in a matrix comprising at least 50% by weight of ground glass bonded together with a substantially uniform bond and of a shape suitable for employment as an abrasive media chip, and a process for the production of such chips which comprises the steps of providing ground glass, causing abrasive grains to be dispersed therein, subjecting the mixture to shape-forming procedure, heating the same to the sintering point of the ground glass, that is, at a temperature between the softening point and the working (fluid) point of the glass but below 1950.degree. F., and allowing the same to cool, thereby to produce abrasive media chips to the type aforesaid.

    摘要: A machine for finishing parts, having part-isolating means such as vertical partitions or dividers, defining one or more compartments, disposed at least partially within the finishing chamber, each compartment designed to accept a part or parts to be finished and to maintain parts isolated from other parts. The finishing chamber and the part-isolating means are movable with respect to each other. As a result, as the part moves along the finishing chamber during the course of the finishing process, the compartment defined by the part-isolating means, e.g., partitions, moves longitudinally with the part and isolates it from other parts. In one embodiment of the invention, the part-isolating means, such as partitions for defining compartments for the parts, moves vertically with respect to the finishing chamber. Vertical movement is controlled by devices such as solenoids or air-operated cylinders in turn controlled by timers, permitting precise control of the finishing period. The vertical movement is so controlled that at the proper times the parts are released to advance to the space beyond the partition. Thus, in effect, the compartment surrounding the part and isolating it from other parts, moves with the part. In another embodiment the partitions are arranged to move longitudinally with the parts, and means are provided for retarding, stopping, or driving the parts longitudinally. In still another embodiment, means is provided for separating finishing material from the parts and discharging finished parts. The finishing machines may be curvilinear or annular gyratory motion-type machines, linear tub-type machines, or any of various types of tumbling machines. Method of finishing whereby any and all of the foregoing objectives are accomplished. The present application claims such improved finishing apparatus wherein the part-isolating means is supported in the upper-edge region of the finishing chamber or container.
