摘要: To provide an electron beam assisted EEM method that can realize ultraprecision machining of workpieces, including glass ceramic materials, in which at least two component materials different from each other in machining speed in a machining process are present in a refined mixed state and the surface state is not even, to a surface roughness of 0.2 to 0.05 nm RMS. The EEM method comprises a working process in which a workpiece and chemically reactive fine particles are allowed to flow along the working face to remove atoms on the working face chemically bonded to the fine particles together with the fine particles through chemical interaction between the fine particles and the working face interface. The workpiece comprises at least two component materials present in a refined mixed state and different from each other in machining speed in the machining process. After the exposure of the workpiece in its working face to an electron beam to conduct modification so that the machining speed of the surface layer part in the working face is substantially even, ultraprecision smoothening is carried out by working process.

摘要: An invention is provided for creating smoothed, heat-treated glass fragments. The invention includes placing a plurality of heat-treated glass fragments into a tumbling or vibrating apparatus. Each heat-treated glass fragment is formed from glass that has been heated to a temperature of at least 1000° Fahrenheit and rapidly cooled to a temperature below 700° Fahrenheit. The plurality of glass fragments are then tumbled or vibrated for a predetermined period of time such that surfaces of the heat-treated glass fragments are smoother than prior to tumbling. The glass fragments are thereafter removed from the tumbling apparatus, resulting in smoothed, heat-treated glass fragments that are suitable for direct handling without hand protection.

摘要: A method for manufacturing an endovascular support device comprises positioning a generally tubular member made of an implantable metal and having a generally cylindrical wall in a working relationship with a laser beam. A desired pattern is cut in the generally cylindrical wall in order to produce a stent having a plurality of openings and a plurality of edges. The stent is tumbled in a medium to round its edges and, in turn, to produce more rounded cross-sections of stent elements.

摘要: A process of dry polishing molded or lathe cut intraocular lenses or like medical devices to removing flash, sharp edges and/or surface irregularities therefrom. The process includes gas and/or rotational tumbling of the intraocular lenses or like medical devices in a dry polishing media. The process is suitable for single piece and multipiece intraocular lenses of varying composition.

摘要: A TUMBLING MILL IS PROVIDED FOR USE IN GRIDING, PULVERIZING AND POLISHING VARIOUS MATERIALS. THE MILL IS ADAPTED TO GENERATE A MULTIPLICITY OF MOTIONS. A MILL CHAMBER ROTATES ABOUT A HORIZONTAL AXIS AROUND A CLOSED, UNDULATING TRACK MOVING RADIALLY IN AND OUT WITH RESPECT TO A VERTICAL DRIVING AXIS, WHICH DRIVING AXIS ITSELF RECIPROCATES VERTICALLY CAUSING THE CHAMBER TO TILT ABOUT ITS HORIZONTAL AXIS.
