Abstract: A fixed wing unmanned aircraft and a method for operating the same are provided. The fixed wing unmanned aircraft may include, but is not limited to, a failure detection system configured to detect faults in one or more of the plurality of components, a capability evaluation system communicatively coupled to the failure detection system, the capability evaluation system configured to determine a capability level of the fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicle based upon the faults in the one or more of the plurality of components, and a trajectory generation system communicatively coupled to the failure detection system and the capability evaluation system, the trajectory generation system configured to generate a touch down trajectory for the fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicle based upon the determined capability level of the fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicle, wherein when the determined capability level is below a predetermined threshold, the touch down trajectory comprising a stall maneuver configured to minimize a lateral energy of the fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicle.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for providing control instructions to a pilot in the event of a loss of control of primary flight surfaces of an aircraft. The control instructions are determined using an emergency flight controller for receiving a pilot input, the emergency flight controller being in operable communication with at least one sensor for sensing aircraft parameters. The emergency flight controller is configured to determine target thrusts for the multiple engines and a target stabilizer position for the trimmable stabilizer on the basis of pilot input and sensed aircraft parameters. A guidance module is configured to provide instructions to a pilot as to how to control the engine thrusts toward the thrust targets and as how to control the trimmable stabilizer towards the target trimmable stabilizer position.

Abstract: A method for providing cues to an aerial vehicle operator is disclosed. The method includes: determining when a vehicle is on final approach; processing a plurality of ground images of a ground path ahead of the vehicle; identifying a lane in the processed ground images; determining whether the identified lane corresponds to an assigned runway based on a relative position or a relative geometry of the identified lane; tracking during landing a left and a right side edge, a front edge, and a runway center line of the assigned runway; determining, relative to the runway center line, whether a relative position of the vehicle during landing is left of, right of, or aligned with the runway center line; and providing visual and/or audible guidance to the vehicle operator to take corrective action when the relative position of the vehicle during landing is not aligned with the runway center line.
