Abstract: A PROCESS FOR CARRYING OUT CATALYTIC REACTIONS, SUCH AS, HYDROGENATION, DESULFURIZATION, HYDROCRACKING, INCLUDING HALOGENTAION, OXIDATION, SULFONATIN, NITRATION, AND AMIDIZATION OF HYDROCARBONS OR THE LIKE IN FIXED, SLURRIED, FLUIDIZED, AND EBULLATED BEDS UTILIZING A CATALYST HAVING MICOROPORES AND ACCESS CHANNEL; AND WHEREIN THE ACCESS CHANNELS ARE INTERSTITALLY SPACED THROUGOUT THE MICROPORES; AND WHEREIN 10 TO 40% OF THE TOTAL PORE VOLUME IS COMPOSED OF ACCESS CHANNELS HAVNG DIAMETERS GREATER THAN 1000 ANGSTROMS; AND WHEREIN 10 TO 40% OF THE TOTAL PORE VOLUME IS COMPOSED OF ACCESS CHANNELS HAVING DIAM-

ETERS BETWEEN ABOUT 100 AND 1000 ANGSTROMS; AND WHEREIN THESE ACCESS CHANNELS ARE SUBSTANTIALLY UNIFORM AS TO THEIR PARAMETERS AND ARE RELATIVELY STRAIGHT WITH MINUMUM BENDING AND CONSTRICTION; AND WHEREIN THE REMAINDER OF THE CATALYST PORE VOLUME COMPRISES MICROPORES WITH DIAMETERS LESS THAN 100 ANGSTROMS WITH THE REAMINDER BEING 20 TO 80% OF THE TOTAL PORE VOLUME. METHODS FOR PREPARING THIS CATALYST WITH RESPECT OT ORIENTATION OF THE ACCESS CHANNELS ARE DESCRIBED.

Abstract: A PROCESS FOR THE HYDROGENATION OF A PETROLEUM RESIDUUM FEED MATERIAL CONTAINING AT LEAST 25 VOLUME PERCENT MATERIAL BOILING ABOVE 975*F. AND GREATER THAN 5 WEIGHT PERCENT ASPHALTENES BY REACTING THE FEED WITH A HYDROGEN RICH GAS AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES IN AN EBULLATED CATALYTIC BED REACTOR WHEREIN SAID FEED MATERIAL IS BLENDED WITH AN AROMATIC DILUENT HAVING A GRAVITY OF LESS THAN 16* APL, A WATSON CHARACTERIZATION FACTOR OF LESS THAN 11.2 AND A BOILING POINT WITHIN THE RANGE OF FROM ABOUT 700*F. TO ABOUT 1000*F., PRIOR TO HYDROGENATION.

Abstract: A coal hydrogenation process employing an expanded particulate solids bed wherein the solids are derived from the coal which is placed in random motion by the upflow of a slurry of coal, hydrocarbon liquid and hydrogen to produce better than 80 percent conversion of coal to gas and liquid synthetic petroleum products. The particulate solids bed is derived from the coal being fed to the reaction zone.

Abstract: In processing high metals Venezuelan residuum, higher conversion of the 975*F plus fraction and improved operability can be obtained by maintaining a high catalyst addition rate to obtain reduced metals loading on the catalyst; it being determined that for a macroporous catalyst there is a limiting factor of metals deposition.

Abstract: WASTE NATURAL AND SYNTHETIC RUBBERS ARE CONVERTED IN THE PRESENCE OF A CATALYST AND IN A HYDROGEN ENVIRONMENT BY PASSING A PARTICULATE RUBBER SLURRY AND HYDROGEN UPWARDLY THROUGH A REACTOR MAINTAINED UNDER TEMPERATURES IN THE 700 TO 850* F. RANGE AND PRESSURES IN THE 500 TO 3000 P.S.I.G. RANGE. THE PARTICULATE RUBBER IS CONVERTED IN THE REACTOR TO HYDROCARBON LIQUIDS WHILE UNCONVERTIBLE SOLIDS ORIGINALLY COMPOUNDED WITH THE RUBBER LEAVE UNCHANGED IN THE PRODUCT. THE HYDROCARBON STREAM CAN HAVE A WIDE RANGE OF PROPERTIES DEPENDING ON THE OBJECTIVES OF THE USER OF THE PROCESS.

Abstract: Hydrocarbon fractions boiling below 975* F. are obtained by hydrocracking heavy hydrocarbon oils, containing 40-100 percent by volume of hydrocarbon fractions boiling above 975* F., in the liquid state in the presence of ebullated catalytic macroporous microspheres. These microspheres are smaller than 60 mesh (U.S. Standard) and larger than 325 mesh. They have a pore volume of at least 0.10 cc./g. in pores larger than 250 Angstroms (A) and at least 0.30 cc./g. in pores less than 250 A. The macroporous, microspheres have an average size such that 80 weight percent fall within a narrow size range and are ebullated by the upward flow of oil and hydrogen through the reactor during hydroconversion. The pore volume of the microspheres is critical as there must be a penetration of the hydrocarbon oil into the catalyst for at least a 3 percent gain in weight.
