摘要: A fuel metering control system for an internal combustion engine including a feedback loop having an adaptive controller and an adaptation mechanism that estimates a controller parameters .theta.. The adaptive controller corrects the quantity of fuel injection to bring a controlled variable obtained at least based on an output of said air/fuel ratio sensor, to a desired value. The air/fuel ratio sensor outputs are sampled and one of the sampled data is selected as the air/fuel ratio to be input to the adaptation mechanism. Similarly, the senor outputs are sampled and one of the sampled is selected in accordance with another characteristic to be used in the estimation of the air/fuel ratios of the individual cylinder. The air/fuel ratio is discriminated to be within a prescribed range, and set to a predetermined value when it is determined to be within the prescribed range.

The basic quantity of fuel injection is determined by retrieving mapped data according to the engine speed and engine load. An adaptive controller is provided to calculate a first feedback correction coefficient to correct the quantity of basic fuel injection such that the detected air/fuel ratio is brought to a desired value, and second feedback loop is provided for calculating feedback correction coefficients to correct the quantity of fuel injection. The desired air/fuel ratio is corrected by a second air/fuel ratio installed downstream of a catalytic converter.

摘要: An air/fuel ratio feedback control system with the adaptive controller. The adaptive controller has a system parameter estimator which identifies system parameters such that the error between the desired value and the controlled variable outputted from the plant decreases to zero. In the system, a basic fuel injection amount is determined at a feedforward system. The adaptive controller is placed outside of the basic fuel injection amount determining system and receives the desired value (air/fuel ratio) and the controlled value (detected air/fuel ratio) using the system parameters etc. The calculated feedback coefficient is multiplied to the basic fuel injection amount to determine a final injection amount to be supplied to the plant (engine). Variables necessary for the system parameter calculation are limited their change of range so as to make the controller to be realized on a low performance computer with a small word length.

The basic quantity of fuel injection is determined by retrieving mapped data according to the detected parameters. A plurality of controllers are provided all using outputs of the air/fuel ratio sensor. The controllers are configured to receive the sensor outputs through filters having different cutout frequency so as to avoid control interference therebetween.
