    摘要: A position detecting device includes a plurality of detecting units that detects marks on an object, a plurality of housing units that houses the detecting units, and a holding member that fixedly holds the housing units. A total expansion amount of the housing units due to temperature change is substantially equal to an expansion amount of the holding member between the fixed positions due to temperature change. The total expansion amount represents a total amount of expansion of the housing units from a fixed-position plane including a fixed position to a detection-position plane including a detection position in a direction parallel to a moving direction of the object. The fixed-position plane and the detection-position plane are perpendicular to the moving direction of the object.

    摘要: An image forming apparatus includes a movable member that moves cyclically in synchronization with an image forming process and a position detector. The position detector includes a scale, an image sensor, a signal processor, and a position computing unit. The scale is attached to the movable member and includes a plurality of optical marks formed in line at a substantially constant interval. The image sensor captures data relating to at least one optical mark at a time. The signal processor computes a coordinate of the optical mark with respect to a reference position. The position computing unit computes a distance traveled by the optical mark based on a number of the optical marks that pass the reference position and the coordinate of the optical mark with respect to the reference position.

The pattern is formed by a line pattern having regularly spaced lines perpendicular to the direction of movement of the scale, the light receiving unit is slanted with respect to the lines, and the relative position detection device detects a relative position change and speed change of the scale.

    摘要: A mark sensing device of the present invention senses marks formed on a turnable body in a preselected periodic pattern in a direction of movement of the turnable body with light emitted from a light source. A slit mask is formed with slits for splitting the light emitted from the light source. A light receiving portion receives the light thus split and then incident on the mark. The slits of the slit mask each belong to either one of two regions one of which is shifted from the other by one-half of the period of the periodic pattern. The light receiving portion receives the light incident on the mark in each of the two regions and converts the light received to two electric signals. A control signal for controlling the amount of movement of the turnable body is produced from the two electric signals.
