摘要: According to the present invention, it is adapted to calculate simultaneously an absolute molecular orientation with an effective second order nonlinear optical constant in an object to be measured without changing a measuring point. Further, in order that a period of time required for measuring an absolute molecular orientation and an effective second order nonlinear optical constant in an object to be measured is reduced, whereby a possibility of damaging the object to be measured can be minimized, measurement is carried out by the use of a single light source in accordance with SHG phase method without shifting the measuring point of the; object to be measured, so that the absolute molecular orientation and the effective second order nonlinear optical constant can be calculated from a fitting curve achieved as a result of fitting the fringe obtained by the above described measurement.

摘要: A method of manufacturing a polymer film having second order non-linear optical properties which has excellent stability of orientated molecules and does not become disorientated, and a polymer film and a non-linear optical element are provided. A polymer solution is placed between two substrates, which are disposed substantially perpendicular with respect to a rotating stand and substantially symmetrical with respect to a rotation axis of the rotating stand, and the rotating stand is rotated. A polymer film having second order non-linear optical properties is formed by the centrifugal force generated at the polymer solution. The polymer solution is a solution formed by dissolving, in an organic solvent, at least one of (1) a host-guest polymer in which low molecular weight compounds are dispersed in polymers, (2) a modified polymer in which regions which exhibit a function of second order non-linear optical properties are chemically modified in polymer side chains and/or a polymer main chain, and (3) a crosslinked polymer. Among these, modified polymers are particularly preferable.

摘要: The method provides for attaching nucleic acids to a surface at a controlled grafting density in a controlled conformation by contacting an immobilization solution of nucleic acids containing at least one block of adenine nucleotides to a surface for a sufficient period of time to allow attachment to the surface. Another aspect of the methods described provides for controlling the grafting density of immobilized oligonucleotides by coadsorption/displacement by oligo(dA). Another aspect provides for a method of immobilizing oligonucleotides in complex conformations by varying the number and position of the block(s) of adenine nucleotides in the sequence of said oligonucleotides. Another aspect provides for controlled immobilization of a functional unit, such as a ligand, a molecule, a macromolecule, an aptamer, a lectin, an immunoglobulin, an antibody, a biomolecule, a solid state particle, a vesicle, or a label to a surface via attachment to at least one block of adenine nucleotides.
