摘要： In an image forming apparatus including a rotary member (15) to which a plurality of developing cartridges (B, Y, M, C) (16) are detachably mountable, a user can rotate the rotary member with an easy operation to access the plurality of developing cartridges. A pivotable unit (63) is contactable and separable from a driving train for the rotary member (15). By applying a certain braking force to a pivotal gear (69), the pivotal gear (69) is moved to a position at which the pivotal gear (69) is held in contact with the driving train by a user's operational force. In association with the contact movement of the pivotable unit (63), a solenoid (57) performing a positional control of the rotary member (15) is released.

A pivotable unit (63) is contactable and separable from a driving train for the rotary member (15). By applying a certain braking force to a pivotal gear (69), the pivotal gear (69) is moved to a position at which the pivotal gear (69) is held in contact with the driving train by a user's operational force. In association with the contact movement of the pivotable unit (63), a solenoid (57) performing a positional control of the rotary member (15) is released.

摘要： A color electrophotographic image forming apparatus is usable with process cartridges that each include an electrophotographic photosensitive drum. The image forming apparatus includes a movable member that is movable between an inside of the main assembly of the apparatus and an outside of the main assembly of the apparatus in a direction crossing with a longitudinal direction of the drum while carrying the cartridges. A main assembly electrical contact is provided inside the main assembly along a movement path of the movable member. An intermediary electrical contact is provided and includes a first electrical contact portion that is disposed inside the movable member, with the intermediary electrical contact being electrically connectable to a cartridge electrical contact of a cartridge, and a second electrical contact portion is disposed outside the movable member, with the second electrical contact portion electrically connectable to a main assembly electrical contact provided in the main assembly.

A direction of pressing caused when the abutting portion of the openable and closable member abuts on the abutting portion of the regulating member is different from a direction in which the abutting portion of the regulating member moves when the regulating member changes from the first state to the second state.

摘要： A wire-grid polarizer having a high polarization separation ability in the visible light region and an improved transmittance in a short wavelength region, and a process for easily producing such a wire-grid polarizer, are provided.A wire-grid polarizer 10 comprising a light-transmitting substrate 14 having a surface on which a plurality of ridges 12 are formed in parallel with one another at a predetermined pitch; an underlayer 22 made of a metal oxide and present at least on a top portion of each ridge 12; and a metal wire made of a metal layer 24 and present on a surface of the underlayer 22 to cover at least a top portion of each ridge 12.

摘要： The present invention provides a wire-grid polarizer showing high polarization separation ability in the visible light region and is excellent in heat resistance and durability; and a process for producing such a wire-grid polarizer with high productivity, which enables to produce a polarizer of large area.A process for producing a wire-grid polarizer, comprising a step of coating a supporting substrate with a photocurable composition, a step of pressing a mold having a plurality of parallel grooves at a constant pitch against the photocurable composition so that the grooves contact with the photocurable composition, a step of curing the photocurable composition in a state that the mold is pressed against the photocurable composition, to form a light-transmitting substrate having a plurality of ridges corresponding to the grooves of the mold, a step of separating the mold from the light-transmitting substrate, and a step of forming fine metalic wires on the ridges of the light-transmitting substrate.

摘要： A novel photochromic liquid crystal comprising a diarylethene compound having both photochromic properties and liquid crystallinity. This compound is a photochromic diarylethene compound having a mesogen group in each of the two aryl groups. The photochromic liquid crystal provides a large change in birefringence by photoisomerization or phase transition, and has high durability against repeated changes in birefringence. A side-chain polymer liquid crystal containing the above photochromic liquid crystal is useful as an optical recording material. Such an optical recording material is capable of performing light modulation by irradiation with light near Tc thereof, and is applicable to photo operator devices, optical memories, and the like. Further, the optical recording material is useful as a material for a recording layer of an optical recording medium such as an optical disk or an optical memory card.

摘要： An N.sup.- silicon layer is epitaxially grown on an oxide film with predetermined openings disposed on one main face of an N.sup.+ silicon substrate to form monocrystalline portions on the openings and polycrystalline portions on the oxide film. Ion implantation and thermal annealing is used to convert the polycrystalline portions to P.sup.+ external base regions and form P.sup.+ internal base regions in the monocrystalline portions. Arsenic ions are selectively implanted into the internal base regions to form N.sup.+ emitter regions. Then, base and emitter electrodes are formed on the external base and emitter regions so as to be electrically insulated from one another by an oxide film and a collector electrode is formed on the other main face of the substrate.
