Abstract: When the latest data and a backup of the latest data are infected, the data is recovered from the backup older than the data. Therefore, it is necessary to eliminate a difference from the latest data, leading to loss of business opportunities. A data recovery system that recovers data stored in a storage system includes a storage device that holds original data, an analyzing server that holds a copy of the original data, and generates formatted data by formatting the copy data for analysis, a managing server that holds the copy data and data history management information storing a history of the formatted data, and a data recovery unit that refers to the data history management information, selects the copy data or the formatted data as recovery data, and recovers the data from the selected recovery data when a security threat is detected in the data.

Abstract: A storage system selects from a plurality of physical areas constituting a physical address space as copy source physical areas, one or more non-additionally recordable physical areas each including a fragmented free area, and also selects a recordable physical area as a copy destination physical area. The storage system then writes one or more pieces of live data from the selected one or more copy source physical areas to the free area of the selected copy destination physical area on a per-strip or per-stripe basis, sequentially from the beginning of the free area. If the size of the write target data is such that it is not possible to write the write target data to the free area on a per-strip or per-stripe basis, then the storage system pads the write target data, and writes the padded write target data to the free area on a per-strip or per-stripe basis.

Abstract: A storage system monitors the first access frequency of occurrence which is the access frequency of occurrence from a host device during a first period, and the second access frequency of occurrence which is the access frequency of occurrence from a host device during a second period shorter than the first period. Abstract: A storage system is adapted for efficiency by defining beforehand a first size, which is the maximum data that can be read at one time, a second size, which is equal to or less than the first size, and a third size, which is a factor of the first size. A controller provides a virtual volume comprising a plurality of virtual pages. Upon receiving a write request, the controller allocates a pool area comprising a plurality of stripes of the first size, stores the write request data in a cache, and when writing the data stored in the cache to the storage device, compresses the data in accordance with the third size unit, selects a storage area in accordance with the second size unit, and writes the compressed data to the selected second size storage area sequentially from the start address of a free area without leaving spaces therebetween.
