摘要: A cleaning method for a contact type charger in an cleanerless image forming apparatus. The method includes a step of switching bias voltages applied to the contact type charger and a develop/cleaning device from first level to a second level so as to release developer adhering to the contact type charger onto an image-bearing member as well as to collect a part of the developer moved onto the image-bearing member by the developing/cleaning device, and a step of switching the bias voltage from the second level to the first level so as to collect the rest of the developer released onto the image-bearing member by the develop/cleaning device.

摘要: Developer material remaining on an image bearing member after transfer are collected by a developer. A cleaning member is arranged between a charger and an exposure in contact with the image bearing member, for collecting the residual developer material. A bias controller controls biases to be applied to a cleaner, a charger, and a developer. During an image forming process, the biases are so determined that the residual toner on the image bearing member is collected by the cleaner. While the image forming process is not performed, the biases are so determined that the collected toner is removed from the cleaner to the image bearing member and then collected by the developer.

摘要: An image forming apparatus includes an image bearer, a charger, a developing device, and a transferor. The charger is disposed in contact with the image bearer to charge the image bearer. The developing device supplies toner to the image bearer to form a toner image on the image bearer. The transferor transfers the toner image on the image bearer to a recording medium or an intermediate transferor. The developing device collects transfer residual toner remaining on the image bearer after transfer of the toner image. The toner contains base particles and an external additive. The external additive has a volume average particle diameter of 5 nm or more and 50 nm or less. A content of the external additive is 1.8% by mass or less in the toner.

摘要: A toner consumption-calculating apparatus includes a printed portion area-detecting unit that detects an area of a printed portion of image data of a latent image that is formed on a latent image-bearing member; a latent image portion area-detecting unit that detects an area of a latent image portion on the latent image-bearing member; and a latent image portion toner consumption-calculating unit that calculates latent image portion toner consumption that indicates toner amount that is consumed due to adhering on the latent image portion. The latent image portion toner consumption-calculating unit uses a detection result of the latent image portion area-detecting unit and a detection result of the printed portion area-detecting unit to calculate the latent image portion toner consumption.

摘要: Cleaning effectiveness is improved, and inadequate charging of the photosensitive member due to soiling of the charging brush as well as image noise such as background fog are suppressed by a developing device capable of recovering residual toner regardless of the toner charge polarity. In an image forming apparatus provided with a developing device including a developing sleeve for developing an electrostatic latent image on photosensitive member via toner and recovering residual toner from the surface of photosensitive member, a power unit is provided for forming a direct current electric field between photosensitive member and developing sleeve during developing, and forming alternating current electric fields between photosensitive member and developing sleeve 16 during cleaning of residual toners.

摘要: In a disclosed image forming apparatus, a developing bias applied to a developer carrier or exposure energy with which an image carrier is exposed is adjusted such that an isolated one-dot image on the image carrier has a predetermined image density. When the image carrier is exposed to form dot images continuously arranged in a sub scanning direction, the exposure time period for each dot image is shorter than a time period for exposing the image carrier to form the isolated one-dot image.
