    Abstract: An industrial process control system comprises a primary controller coupled with a buffer and a primary memory. The primary controller is configured to create at least one redundant data type based on at least one base data type. The at least one redundant data type includes tracked operators that are different from corresponding operators of the at least one base data type. The tracked operators include an assignment function that is a same assignment function performed by the corresponding operators of the at least one base data type, and a transfer function. The primary controller is further configured to perform the assignment function on a piece of data to assign the piece of data to an address in the primary memory, perform the transfer function to transfer the piece of data to a buffer, and transfer contents of the buffer to a backup memory.

    Abstract: An apparatus includes a first hardware assist device having at least one transmitter, at least one receiver, and a timer. The at least one transmitter is configured to transmit at least one first signal to a second hardware assist device of a redundant second apparatus. The at least one first signal indicates that the apparatus is functional. The at least one receiver is configured to receive at least one second signal from the second hardware assist device. The at least one second signal indicates that the second apparatus is functional. The timer is configured to control a driver to block transmission of the at least one first signal in response to a fault associated with the apparatus. The apparatus also includes at least one processing device configured to perform one or more actions in response to a loss of the at least one second signal from the second apparatus.

    Abstract: A method for optimizing memory utilization in a gateway of a process control and automation system is provided. The method includes obtaining, for a selected intelligent electronic device (IED), a configured IED description (CID) file associated with the selected IED. The CID file is filtered to generate a filtered CID file. The filtered CID file is provided to the gateway, which is configured to use the filtered CID file to communicate with the selected IED.
