Abstract: An electrolyte composition and a metal-ion battery employing the same are provided. The electrolyte composition includes a metal chloride, a chlorine-containing ionic liquid, and an additive, wherein the additive has a structure represented by Formula (I) [M]i[(A(SO2CxF2x+1)y)b−]j Formula (I), wherein M can be imidazolium cation, ammonium cation, azaannulenium cation, . . . etc., wherein M has a valence of a; a can be 1, 2, or 3; A can be N, O, Si, or C; x can be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6; y can be 1, 2, or 3; b can be 1, 2, or 3; i can be 1, 2, or 3; j can be 1, 2, or 3; a/b=j/i; and when y is 2 or 3, the (SO2CxF2x+1) moieties are the same or different.

The electrolyte composition includes a metal salt of Formula (I), an ionic liquid, and an additive MiXj Formula (I), wherein M can be lithium ion, sodium ion, potassium ion, beryllium ion, magnesium ion, calcium ion, scandium ion, yttrium ion, titanium ion, zirconium ion, hafnium ion, vanadium ion, niobium ion, tantalum ion, chromium ion, molybdenum ion, tungsten ion, manganese ion, technetium ion, rhenium ion, iron ion, ruthenium, osmium ion, cobalt ion, rhodium ion, iridium ion, nickel ion, palladium ion, platinum ion, copper ion, silver ion, gold ion, zinc ion, cadmium ion, mercuric ion, indium ion, thallium ion, tin ion, lead ions, arsenic ions, antimony ions, bismuth ion, gallium ion, or aluminum ion; X− can be F−, Cl−, Br−, I−, BF4, PF6−, [(CF3SO2)2N]−, CF3SO3−, NO3−, CH3CO2−, SO42−, C2O42−, or [B(C2O4)2]−; and i is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6; and j is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. The additive includes a substituted or unsubstituted C5-C30 nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound.

The electrolyte composition includes a metal chloride, an imidazolium salt of Formula (I), an alkali halide, and an oxalate-containing borate wherein R1, R2, and R3 are independently C1-8 alkyl, C2-8 alkenyl, C2-8 alkynyl, C1-8 alkoxy, C2-8 alkoxyalkyl, or C1-8 fluoroalkyl; and X− is F−, Cl−, Br−, or I−. The metal chloride is aluminum chloride, iron chloride, zinc chloride, copper chloride, manganese chloride, chromium chloride, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: An electrolyte composition and a metal-ion battery employing the same are provided. The electrolyte composition includes a metal halide, an organic compound, and a halogen-containing salt, wherein the halogen-containing salt has a structure represented by Formula (I) [Ca+]i[X−]j Formula (I) , wherein M can be IA element, IIA element, IIIA element, IVA element, VA element, VIA element, transition metal, pyrrolium, pyrrolinium, pyrrolidinium, pyridinium, ammonium, imidazolium, indazolium, pyrimidinium, etc.; wherein A can be F, Cl, Br, or I; a=j/i; i is 1, 2, 3, or 4; j is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. The molar ratio of the metal halide to the organic compound is higher than 2, and the molar ratio of metal halide to the halogen-containing salt is higher than 2. The metal halide is different from the halogen-containing salt.
