Abstract: An antenna element having a vertically stacked structure and a phased array antenna that includes a plurality of antenna elements sharing a common conductive ground plane are described. The phased array antenna also includes a common conductive shell electrically coupled to the common conductive ground plane and extending away there from to encompass the antenna elements. The common conductive shell and the common conductive ground plane together define a common cavity having a common aperture. The phased array antenna also includes a common dielectric superstrate layer disposed over the common cavity at a predetermined distance from the antenna elements and a beam steering system coupled to the antenna elements and configured for steering an energy beam produced by the phased array antenna.

Abstract: An antenna device is presented comprising: a conformal antenna body which has a desired geometry corresponding to a front portion of a platform on which the antenna device is to be mounted, and an antenna unit carried by the antenna body. The antenna unit comprises at least one phased array of antenna elements, the antenna elements of each of the at least one array being arranged in a spaced-apart relationship in a closed loop path along a circumference of the antenna body having a desired geometry corresponding to the front portion of the platform on which the antenna unit is to be mounted. Each of the antenna elements is configured as an end-fire antenna element capable of emitting linearly polarized radiation. The array of the antenna elements is operable as a forward looking end-fire antenna array, enabling electronic steering of an antenna beam by controllably modifying phases of the antenna elements of each array.

Abstract: A system and method for determination of a direction to an object emitting and/or reflecting electromagnetic radiation. The system includes a first pair of linearly polarized antennas configured for receiving a polarized signal of a first polarization type and a second pair of linearly polarized antennas configured for receiving another polarized signal of the polarization second type originated from the object. The system includes four receivers coupled to the linearly polarized antennas of the first and second pairs and a signal processing system coupled to the receivers. Each receiver associated with at least one pair of the antennas, includes a phase shifter to provide a required phase shift to the received polarized signals. The signal processing system combines the phase-shifted polarized signals with non-shifted signals which are originated from different pairs of the antennas, and to process these signals for generating at least one direction parameter of the object.

Abstract: A polarimetric phase array radar system (PPARS) for determination of parameters of a target and a method of operating the PPARS are described. The PPARS includes an array having transceiver elements configured to transmit transmitting signal components of a dual-polarization signal having either a single type polarization or simultaneously two types of polarization. The array also configured to receive a receiving signal component having a single type of polarization. In transmitting mode, the transceiver elements are operative to transmit a signal component having one or two types of polarization. In receiving mode, the transceiver elements are divided into at least two sub-arrays. Each sub-array includes a first portion of the transceiver elements and a second portion of the transceiver elements, and is operative to receive a signal component having a first type polarization by the first portion of the transceiver elements and a signal component having a second type polarization by the second portion of the transceiver elements.
