    摘要: A flexible abrasive member is formed by applying a layer of metal (13;15,16) to mesh material (12). Abrasive material (14) is embedded in the metal layer during the deposition of the layer by an electrodeposition process. The mesh material may be electrically non-conducting woven material and the metal layer is deposited through the mesh material.In making the member the mesh material is laid on a smooth, preferably curvilinear, surface (10) formed with areas (11) for receiving the metal layer. Abrasive material is introduced onto the surface at the beginning of the metal deposition process or towards the end of the deposition process.

    摘要: In a method of forming an abrasive article a mesh material is applied with insulating material over areas which do not require abrasive, the insulating material being absorbed into the mesh material. The mesh material is then laid onto a surface of electrically conducting material and metal is electro-deposited onto the discrete areas of the mesh not bearing the insulating material. Abrasive is added so that it becomes embedded in the metal. The resulting material with metal and abrasive areas is stripped off the surface. The preferred insulating materials are ink screen printed onto the mesh, or hot melt adhesive perforated to define openings and then applied to the mesh to penetrate the mesh.

    摘要: A tool including abrasive segments, which can be superabrasive segment, mounted to a mounting plate and a method for making the same. The abrasive segments include hard particles and are formed by sintering layers of hard particles with layers of bond material to form a laminated sheet. The abrasive segments are then cut from the laminated sheet and mounted to a planar face of the mounting plate to form a portion of a working region of the tool. Each segment has a grinding surface which can be formed perpendicular to the layers of bond material and layers of hard particles so that the concentration of hard particles at the grinding surface is relatively high. This allows the portion of working surface made up of the abrasive segments to relatively small. The segments can also be mounted to the substrate disc such that the grinding surface of each segment is at an angle to the planar face.
