    摘要: According to embodiments of the present invention, a shielded pole writer and a perpendicular magnetic recording medium suitable thereto are combined to provide high medium SNR and excellent OW characteristic simultaneously. A perpendicular magnetic recording medium of a magnetic storage apparatus mounting a shielded pole writer, including a perpendicular magnetic recording medium having a recording layer of a three layered structure is used. A first recording layer has a granular structure consisting of grain boundaries containing an oxide and columnar grains comprising a CoCrPt alloy, in which a second recording layer and a third recording layer formed thereabove comprise Co as a main ingredient, contain Cr and do not contain an oxide, and the Cr concentration in the second recording layer is lower than the Cr concentration in the third recording layer.

    摘要: Embodiments of the present invention provide a perpendicular magnetic recoding medium capable of decreasing exchange coupling between crystal grains while suppressing increase in the crystal grain size of the magnetic recording layer. According to one embodiment, a perpendicular magnetic recoding medium is formed by stacking a seed layer, an intermediate layer, a magnetic recording layer, and a protecting layer all above a substrate. The magnetic recording layer has a granular structure constituted of a plurality of columnar grains comprising a CoCrPt alloy and a grain boundary containing an oxide. The seed layer is formed by stacking a first seed layer, a second seed layer, and a third seed layer in which the first seed layer comprises Ti or Ti alloy having a hexagonal close-packed structure, the second seed layer comprises Cu, Ag, or Al having a face-centered cubic structure or an alloy containing at least one element selected therefrom, and the third seed layer comprises an Ni alloy having a face-centered cubic structure.

    摘要: A perpendicular magnetic recording medium includes an intermediate film formed of a plurality of layers between a soft magnetic film and a perpendicular magnetization film. The intermediate film includes at least two layers, i.e., an oxygen-containing layer, or a nonmetallic element-containing layer containing nitrogen, silicon or carbon, and a metallic layer formed on a surface side of the oxygen-containing layer or the nonmetallic element-containing layer. The metallic layer includes a plurality of isolated island-shaped structures. Crystal grains of the perpendicular magnetization film are formed so as to correspond to the isolated island-shaped structures. As a result, a high recording density is obtained.

    摘要: In a granular magnetic recording layer of a perpendicular magnetic recording medium, media noises are reduced by separating adequately magnetic crystal grains and non-magnetic grain boundary and decreasing magnetic exchange interactions among the magnetic crystal grains without causing damage to magnetic anisotropy of the magnetic crystal grains. In one embodiment, the perpendicular magnetic recording medium, in which crystal alloy grains containing Co, Pt, and Cr, and non-magnetic grain boundary containing Si and O is included; the ratio of the number of O atom to that of Si atom in the magnetic recording layer is between about 2.5 and 5; the Si atomic composition in the magnetic recording layer is between about 3 and 6 atomic %; and the O atomic composition in the magnetic recording layer is between about 12 and 20 atomic %, is used. The in-plane distribution of perpendicular coercivity at any points of the medium of the magnetic recording layer is made at most about ±10% of an average value.
