Abstract: The present invention relates to delayed coking of heavy petroleum residue producing petroleum coke and lighter hydrocarbon products. The invented process utilize a pre-cracking reactor and a reactor furnace for mild thermal cracking of the feedstock and an intermediate separator, before being subjected to higher severity thermal cracking treatment in a coker furnace and a coking drums, resulting in reduction in overall coke yield.

Abstract: A delayed coking furnace (100) for heating coker feedstock (101) is disclosed. The furnace (100) includes a first heating zone (102) adapted to provide heat to the coker feedstock (101) through a convective heat transfer and then a second heating zone (104) positioned below the first heating zone (102) and adapted to heat the coker feedstock (101) through radiative heat transfer, wherein the second heating zone (104) include a lower portion and an upper portion. Further, said furnace (100) includes a plurality of burners (106) located at the lower portion of the second heating zone (104) and at least one baffle (111) disposed in the upper portion of the second heating zone (104). Further, the present disclosure provides that the at least one baffle (111) is adapted to increase a convective heat transfer coefficient associated with a flue gas flowing from the second heating zone (104) to the first heating zone (102).

Abstract: The present invention relates to resid processing, particularly related to conversion of resid material with maximum recovery of lighter hydrocarbons. The invented process utilizes a novel scheme for integration of solvent de-asphalting and delayed coking processes to maximize the residue conversion to valuable products, with cleaner quality of middle distillates and fuel oil products, in comparison with other integrated solvent de-asphalting and delayed coking schemes. This process also has an additional flexibility to vary the recycle quantity, without impacting fractionator operation of the delayed coking section, which further enhances the product recovery and achieves maximum conversion of the resid feedstock, with minimum impact on liquid product properties.
