    Abstract: A connector device includes a pluggable interface and a corresponding connector. The pluggable interface includes multiple rows of pads. Similarly, the connector includes multiple rows of contacts to contact the multiple rows of pads. The multiple rows of pads can further be subdivided where at least certain pad locations are subdivided into two smaller pads. At least certain pads can be disposed at angles other than right angles. The connector can include a cover with a mechanism to depress the second row of contacts. The depression mechanism is engaged via side wings on the cover engage with legacy plugs and avoid contact between the second row of contacts and the pads of the legacy plug.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to an optical USB (OUSB) to enhance the data rate of USB by adding super-high data rate (e.g. 10 Gbps) optical communication on top of its current specification so that backward compatibility is achievable. Mechanical tolerances may be achieved by using embedded lenses to expand a beam emerging from the connector prior to entering its mating connector and using an identical lens in the mating connector to collimate the beam back onto a fiber.

    Abstract: Described are embodiments of apparatuses and systems of an active optical cable assembly including a connector plug configured to resist stress to optical fibers of the cable assembly. The connector plug may include a light engine mounted on a substrate, a jumper mounted on the substrate and configured to convey optical signals between an optical fiber and the light engine, and a fiber holder assembly configured to constrain motion of the optical fiber, the fiber holder assembly including a fiber holder on a first side of the substrate and a fiber holder cover on a second side of the substrate such that the optical fiber is fixedly held between the fiber holder and the fiber holder cover.
