Abstract: Embodiments may include apparatus, systems, and methods associated with an Enhanced Serial Peripheral Interface (eSPI) channel interface to couple to a data bus to link an eSPI master device to an eSPI slave device. In embodiments, the eSPI master device includes an eSPI device controller and is coupled to the channel interface and transmits a notification of a crash event, e.g., a catastrophic error (CATERR), via packet-based signaling, such as a virtual wire (VW) over the data bus to allow the eSPI master device to transmit the notification of the crash event without allocation of a dedicated wire signal for the notification between the eSPI master device and the eSPI slave device. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to a computing device in which an embedded controller (EC) detects an anomalous low power state. When a processor in a chip package enters a low power state such as a deep idle state, the EC obtains information to verify whether activity of the processor is consistent with the low power state. The EC can communicate with the chip package via a serial peripheral interface to obtain counter data indicating an idle state residency of subsystems of the chip package, along with internal temperature data. The EC can also access data from an external temperature sensor and a battery fuel gauge. The EC determines whether the counter data, temperature and battery discharge rate are inconsistent with the processor entering the low power state. If there is an inconsistency, the EC can shutdown or restart the computing device.

Abstract: Embodiments may include apparatus, systems, and methods associated with an Enhanced Serial Peripheral Interface (eSPI) channel interface to couple to a data bus to link an eSPI primary device to an eSPI secondary device. In embodiments, the eSPI primary device includes an eSPI device controller and is coupled to the channel interface and transmits a notification of a crash event, e.g., a catastrophic error (CATERR), via packet-based signaling, such as a virtual wire (VW) over the data bus to allow the eSPI primary device to transmit the notification of the crash event without allocation of a dedicated wire signal for the notification between the eSPI primary device and the eSPI secondary device.
