In producing cracked gas and cracked oil by thermally cracking a heavy hydrocarbon within a reactor in which a granular solid, steam and oxygen form a fluidized bed or moving bed, a process which is characterized in that the heavy hydrocarbon is supplied to the upper portion of the reactor and part of the granular solid is discharged from the bottom of the reactor and thereafter fed again to the upper portion of the reactor, to thereby maintain the upper portion at a temperature of not higher than 550.degree.C.

In purifying a gas containing at least one of hydrogen cyanide and hydrogen sulfide as a harmful component by fixing the harmful component in water as an aqueous solution of nitrogen-containing sulfur compound so as to render the gas free of the harmful component, an improvement characterized by:1. burning the aqueous solution of nitrogen-containing sulfur compound to obtain an exhaust gas containing sulfur dioxide,2. separating the sulfur dioxide from the exhaust gas for recovery, and3. exhausting the gas after the separation of the sulfur dioxide.

A system for generation of electricity which comprises warming an intermediate heat exchange medium, cooled and liquefied as the result of having been used for warming LNG to vaporize, with water or sea water to vaporize, introducing the vaporized intermediate heat medium into a turbine equipped with an electric power generator for driving and using again the intermediate heat medium discharged from the turbine for warming LNG to vaporize while the intermediate heat medium discharged from the turbine is contacted with the condensed liquid of the intermediate heat medium with intervention of a packing material.

The apparatus for vaporizing LNG comprises a heat exchanger of the intermediate fluid type and a multitubular heat exchanger, both heat exchangers using estuarine water or warm effluent water as a heat source. The process for vaporizing LNG comprises the heat exchange steps between LNG and a heating medium and between the heating medium and estuarine water or warm effluent water in an intermediate fluid type heat exchanger, and the heat exchange step between the vaporized natural gas and estuarine water or warm effluent water in a multitubular heat exchanger.
Abstract:
Gases containing hydrogen cyanide, ammonia and hydrogen sulfide are purified by first washing the gas with a suspension of solid sulfur to fix the hydrogen cyanide as ammonium thiocyanate and ammonium thiosulfate. The resulting suspension is then subjected to a wet-oxidation wherein the thiosulfate and a part of the thiocyanate is converted into sulfuric acid and ammonium sulfate afterwhich the resulting liquid containing unreacted thiocyanate is decomposed into an ammonium salt and is recovered from the oxidation and decomposition steps.
