摘要: Medical devices and methods are presented for protecting a limb, e.g., an arm, of a patient during a medical procedure. The medical devices and methods utilize a plurality of longitudinal sealed fluid pockets to thermally insulate and cushion an extremity of a limb. The plurality of longitudinal sealed fluid pockets is incorporated in a protective body that is shaped to wrap around the extremity when the medical device is deployed. The protective body has at least one access opening to provide access through the protective body to one or more corresponding portions of the extremity. Access panels may be formed into the protective body to allow portions of the extremity to be covered or uncovered and used with left or right limbs.Other devices and methods are presented.

摘要: A rail-mountable support assembly includes a universal positioning arm for holding a surgical instrument such as an endoscope or retractor during a surgical procedure. Coarse adjustment of instrument X-Y position across the sterile field above an operating table is provided by an articulated arm which is rotatably coupled to an upright support shaft. Fine adjustment of surgical instrument elevation above the operating table is provided by a reversible drive motor which extends and retracts the instrument along the longitudinal axis of the support arm. The insertion orientation of the instrument is adjustable by a rotatable coupling. Release of the articulated arm for coarse positioning can be performed manually by actuation of an arm-mounted switch, and fine positioning can be performed manually by arm-mounted switches or by foot pressure applied to floor switches by the surgeon.

摘要: An embryo transfer catheter with a protective sheath is disclosed. The use of a protective sheath shields a guide catheter from cervical mucus. The retracted open flaps of the outer protective sheath draw the mucus and blood away from the inner guide catheter. This allows an inner embryo transfer sheath to enter the uterus unobstructed. The embryo is then transferred to the uterus by means of fluid pressure with a culture medium. The protective sheath may be snap fit onto the guide catheter. The sheaths and catheters may be manufactured in a variety of lengths for individual convenience and then snap-fit onto each other for better control during an embryo implantation procedure. Other catheters and related instruments may also be manufactured with snap-on features.
