    Abstract: A control device includes a data storing unit, a synchronization control unit, and a duty control unit. The synchronization control unit starts a frame period when a vertical synchronization signal is received. The frame period includes a video image period and an extended period. The synchronization control unit initializes pixel circuits within a predetermined period after the reception of the vertical synchronization signal, temporarily stores the video image signal in the data storing unit after the reception of the vertical synchronization signal, and supplies the video image signal from the data storing unit to a display panel after the initialization and during the video image period. The duty control unit causes the display panel to emit light after the initialization and during the video image period, and controls the display panel such that the display panel emits and extinguishes light at a predetermined duty ratio during the extended period.

    Abstract: A control device includes a data storing unit, a synchronization control unit, a light emission control unit, and a luminance adjustment unit. The light emission control unit derives a luminance adjustment parameter for adjusting a light emission luminance of light emitting elements when a video image is displayed with a total number of vertical lines in a current frame such that a total light emission amount of the light emitting elements during one frame period when the video image is displayed with the total number of vertical lines in the current frame is equal to a total light emission amount of the light emitting elements during one frame period when a video image is displayed with a pre-set minimum number of vertical lines. The luminance adjustment unit adjusts, based on the luminance adjustment parameter, the light emission luminance of the light emitting elements.

    Abstract: A luminance controlling unit includes a luminance controller that controls luminance of a pixel array including pixels each including a current-driven self-luminescent element. The first voltage is outputted from a first voltage source adjacent to an anode of the corresponding self-luminescent element, and the second voltage is outputted from a second voltage source adjacent to a cathode of the corresponding self-luminescent element. The duty ratio is directed to controlling of light emission and light extinction of the self-luminescent element.

    Abstract: A control method is provided for suppressing a flicker phenomenon even if frame periods vary in length. The control method controls an emission period and an extinction period of a frame period, which is a period in which one image continues to be displayed. When a signal indicating start of a frame period is detected, as the frame period, n subframe periods that configure the frame period, where n is an integer greater than or equal to 2, are sequentially started from the first subframe period, after a predetermined period of time has elapsed since the detection of the signal. All of the n subframe periods are controlled to have a substantially same length determined in advance and to have a substantially same ratio between the emission period and the extinction period, determined in advance, the ratio being referred to as a duty ratio.

    Abstract: A semiconductor device includes: a receiving circuit which receives communication frames each transmitted with a first period or a second period that are different from each other and including a synchronization code and data; a logic circuit which has a first operation state in which the received communication frames are each processed as data other than a digital video signal, and a second operation state in which the received communication frames are each processed as the digital video signal; a detecting circuit which detects the synchronization code from each of the received communication frames; a measuring circuit which measures a period of the detected synchronization code; and a determining circuit which determines the measured period. The logic circuit substantially makes a transition to the first operation state or the second operation state according to a result of the determining.

    Abstract: A control device is for use in a case where frame periods, each being a period in which one image continues to be displayed, vary in length within a given range or temporarily become stable in length on a frame-by-frame basis, and accurate lengths of the frame periods are not known beforehand. The control device changes a total number of subframe periods to reconfigure the frame period with n subframe periods, where n is an integer of two or more, regardless of the frame period input, and causes the display of the image. The control device includes a signal processor that outputs an output video signal according to a first input video signal on a subframe-period-by-subframe-period basis; and a controller that supplies the output video signal output from the signal processor and a control signal for controlling an operation of the display panel to the display panel.

    Abstract: A method of driving a display panel includes: correcting a gate-source voltage of a first transistor to cause the gate-source voltage of a first transistor to become closer to a threshold voltage of the first transistor; and writing a signal voltage into a gate of the first transistor by applying a plurality of voltage pulses to a gate of a second transistor. The correcting and the writing are performed in each of pixels of the display panel. The signal voltage corresponds to an image signal. The voltage pulses applied in the writing include a first voltage pulse and a second voltage pulse. The first voltage pulse is applied previous to the second voltage pulse. The second voltage pulse is applied subsequent to the first voltage pulse. A peak value of the first voltage pulse is higher than a peak value of the second voltage pulse.

    Abstract: A luminance controlling unit includes a luminance controller that controls luminance of a pixel array. The pixel array includes pixels each including a current-driven self-luminescent element. The luminescent controller sets, on the basis of an image signal corresponding to a frame image, a threshold that is directed to detection of a maximum signal level of the image signal, and performs dynamic control of a potential difference between a first voltage and a second voltage on the basis of the maximum signal level detected with reference to the set threshold. The first voltage is outputted from a first voltage source adjacent to an anode of the self-luminescent element, and the second voltage is outputted from a second voltage source adjacent to a cathode of the self-luminescent element.
