A control apparatus for reproducing data from a digital video disk at high speed and a method therefor. The control apparatus including a descrambler for descrambling the data which is read from the digital video disk, demodulated and error-corrected, and detecting a navigation pack sector from the data, a navigation interrupt generator for generating a navigation interrupt if the navigation pack sector is detected by the descrambler, a memory for storing the descrambled data, and a microprocessor for determining a next reproducing position of the digital video disk on the basis of information of the navigation pack sector contained in the descrambled data by accessing the memory if the navigation interrupt is detected, and controlling a driving of the digital video disk.

A data protective apparatus for a hard disc drive (HDD) built in an optical recorder and player and a method thereof. The data protective apparatus includes a hard disc drive for storing latest refresh times and/or access times of stored files, a DVD-RAM drive, a flash ROM for storing an operating system for operating a system and application programs, and a control unit for reading the refresh times and/or access times of the respective files in the hard disc drive, comparing the refresh times and/or access times of the respective files with the present time, and refreshing and storing the files of which the refresh times and/or access times reach the present time. The data protective apparatus can preserve data such as videos, photographs, and music, recorded in the HDD for a long time period without damage, and enable a user to perform a backup of the data in a disc for the permanent preservation of the data.

A method for rapidly implementing the data processing for an optical disk in an optical disk recording or reproducing apparatus capable of reproducing data from multiple types of disks. The method includes the steps of turning on a laser of a pickup device, setting the pickup device at an initial position, and driving a timer; obtaining a minimum tracking error point from an optical disk while vertically moving the pickup device from the initial position to the optical disk at a constant velocity; detecting a thickness of the optical disk from a value of the timer at the time when the minimum tracking error point is obtained and from the constant velocity during the vertical movement of the pickup device; obtaining minimum tracking error points between tracks on the optical disk while horizontally moving the pickup device at a constant velocity, at the time when the minimum tracking error point is obtained; detecting a pitch size between the tracks from a period between the minimum tracking error points and from the constant velocity during the horizontal movement of the pickup device; and discriminating the type of disk from the detected thickness of the optical disk and the detected pitch size between the tracks.
