摘要: Provided are an apparatus and method for driving a 2-dimensional (2D)/3-dimensional (3D) switchable display for improving the quality of image. The apparatus for driving a 2D/3D switchable display includes: an image mode determination unit determining whether input image signals of continuous frames are in a 2D mode or 3D mode; and an over-driving control unit over-driving the input image signal of a current differently according to the determined image mode. According to the apparatus and method, the response time in each of the 2D mode and the 3D mode can be increased, while motion blur and cross-talk effects can be decreased, thereby improving the quality of image.

摘要: A 2D/3D convertible display apparatus and a method of driving the same are provided. The 2D/3D convertible display apparatus includes a liquid crystal display panel, a polarizing panel changing the direction of polarization of an incident light beam according to a signal applied thereto, a panel driver applying a driving signal to the liquid crystal display panel when receiving a vertical synchronization signal and applying a driving signal to the polarizing panel when receiving a stereo synchronization signal, and a synchronization signal generator generating the stereo synchronization signal to allow the panel driver to apply the driving signal to the polarizing panel in both 2D and 3D modes. Accordingly, the driving signal is applied to the polarizing panel in the 2D mode to solve a problem that the polarizing panel is off to cause a defective image to be displayed when the driving signal is not applied to the polarizing panel in the 2D mode.

摘要: A 2D/3D switchable display device includes a light source unit; a polarization switching unit for switching light from the light source unit to one of first polarized light and second polarized light, which is perpendicular to the first polarized light; a parallax barrier including slits and barriers that are alternately arranged, wherein the slits transmit incident light and the barriers transmit one of the first and second polarized light and reflect the other of the first and second polarized light; and a display panel for modulating light transmitted through the parallax barrier in response to an image signal to create an image. The 2D/3D switchable display device controls an electric signal applied to the polarization switching unit so that a 2D image and a 3D image are switched to each other.

The stereoscopic display apparatus includes: a backlight unit which has a reflective plate disposed on a bottom surface thereof; a polarizer which only transmits light of a specific polarization direction emitted from the backlight unit; a first birefringent element array including a plurality of alternating first and second birefringent elements that change the polarization direction of incident light; a second birefringent element array including a plurality of alternating third and fourth birefringent elements that change the polarization direction of incident light; a reflective polarizing sheet which transmits light of a specific polarization direction transmitted by the second birefringent element array while reflecting light of another polarization direction transmitted by the second birefringent element array; and a display panel which displays an image.

摘要: An autostereoscopic display is provided which includes: a light source; a display panel which forms an image by controlling the transmittance of light incident from the light source; a display panel controller that controls the modulation of the display panel and that scans the display panel according to an image signal; a switching barrier that separates the viewing zone of an image beam incident from the display panel by electrically controlling light transmittance and which includes odd column cells and even column cells that are alternately arranged in a horizontal direction and are alternately switched between slits transmitting light and masks blocking light; and a switching barrier controller that controls barrier modes of the slits and the masks to be changed in synchronization with the scanning of the display panel.
