摘要: A method and apparatus for estimating the time varying mechanical properties of a cement including propagating acoustic waves through a cement sample, measuring signals corresponding to the acoustic waves after they propagate in the sample, comparing attributes from the measured signals with corresponding attributes provided by a model accounting for at least initially estimated acoustic properties of the cement, using the differences between the measured and calculated signals to update the initially estimated acoustic properties of the material in the calculating model, using the differences between the measured and calculated signals, updating the initial acoustic properties in the model, processing N iterations of the comparison and updating either until the differences between measured and calculated signals are within a given tolerance factor or when the number i reaches a prescribed maximum and calculating the time varying mechanical properties of the cement from the final iterated acoustic properties.

摘要: A well casing is insonified with a first acoustic wave in a first mode that may be any mode of a set including: extensional mode, thickness mode, flexural mode. A first echo is received at a first acoustic transducer for receiving, a first signal is produced and a first measurement is extracted from the first signal. The casing is then insonified with a second acoustic wave in a second mode that may be any mode of the set of modes but is distinct from the first mode. A second echo is received at a selected second acoustic transducer for receiving and a second signal is produced. A second measurement is extracted from the second signal. The zone behind the casing of the well is evaluated from a combination of the first measurement and the second measurement.

摘要: The present invention describes several techniques for displaying sonic logging data that provide highly reliable, visual quality-control (QC) indicators. One aspect of the present invention is directed to a novel display of sonic logging data corresponding to a slowness frequency analysis (SFA) projection log. One of the benefits of the SFA projection log display of the present invention is that the format of the information displayed may be used to visually confirm the accuracy/inaccuracy of the processed sonic logging data over selected depth intervals. The SFA projection log display may also be used to visually identify any potential problematic or inconsistent portions of the processed sonic logging information. An overlay of estimated wave slowness information may also be displayed onto the SFA log display in a manner which enables an observer of the SFA log display to visually assess the relative accuracy of the estimated wave slowness information over selected depth intervals. The SFA log display may also include a navigable pointer mechanism configured or designed to allow a user to navigate within the SFA log display in order to access depth specific sonic logging information associated with selected depths. In this way selected characteristics of depth specific sonic logging information may be accessed and displayed concurrently with log information for an entire depth interval.

摘要: Methods and systems are provided for modeling an aspect of a hydrocarbon-containing reservoir by constructing a first factor graph having variables and factors that describe the aspect of the hydrocarbon-containing reservoir. The first factor graph is converted to a tree-structured graph that does not have any cycle or loops. The tree-structured graph is converted to a second factor graph that does not contain any cycles or loops, wherein the second factor graph has variables and factors that describe the aspect of the hydrocarbon-containing reservoir. A query on the second factor graph is carried out involving message passing operations that perform probabilistic inference on the second factor graph with regard to the aspect of the hydrocarbon-containing reservoir that is modeled by the second factor graph.
