A network interface device includes a base, a cover and a circuit board secured in the base. The circuit board includes terminations for input and output communication lines. Each pair of input and output communication lines corresponds to a single standard telephone line, a high speed data line or other type of line. The communication line terminations may be implemented as insulation displacement connectors, and the cover may include projections on its inner surface such that closing the cover also closes the insulation displacement connectors on the circuit board. For each communication line, the circuit board may include a subscriber bridge which establishes a breakable connection between the input and output line terminations via traces in the circuit board. In fixed wireless, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and other similar applications, the circuit board may also include terminations for input and output power lines, and the base and cover may be extended to accommodate an uninterruptible power supply. The power supply supplies the input power line to the corresponding termination on the circuit board, and the output power line is supplied to a power input of a remote unit in a fixed wireless system or other electronic unit external to the network interface device. The circuit board may also include power protection circuitry for protecting against surges on the input and output communication and power lines.

A crosstalk compensating connector jack assembly has a dielectric spring block having a staggered configuration of lead frames. The conductors of one of the lead frames are maintained at a first level in the block and the conductors of a second one of the lead frames are maintained at a second level within the block. The two levels are spaced apart a distance that permits the formation of interacting inductive loops. For at least two pairs of conductors, one of the conductors is in the first lead frame and the other conductor is in the second lead frame, thereby forming two inductive loops which interact with each other to reduce crosstalk. The spring block is made of two substantially identical halves adapted to be latched together to hold the conductors in place.

A communication connector arrangement has a contact wire support, and at least a first and a second pair of terminal contact wires with portions fixed on the support. Each pair of contact wires has contact portions for establishing electrical connections with a mating connector. A first leading portion of a first contact wire of the first pair, and a second leading portion of a second contact wire of the second pair, extend generally parallel to one another and are terminated at their ends by a capacitance element. Capacitive crosstalk compensation is thus produced at the contact portions of the terminal contact wires, when the latter are engaged by the mating connector. The invention is a modular cross-connect system which has a connector block having an array of connector jacks therein and which is mountable on a panel. The block has pivot pins for pivotally mounting it in an aperture in the panel, and the rear of the block has connectors thereon for connecting wires or other signal carriers to the connector jacks. The block can be pivoted to give access to the connectors from in front of the panel so that connections can be made, after which the block can be pivoted back to its operative position and latched in place. In a second embodiment of the invention, the block is supported by retaining clips extending from the front of the panel so that it can be supported in front of the panel during wiring after which it is inserted into an aperture in the panel and pivotally supported therein, with means on the block for latching it in place.

The circuit member comprises a wiring board on which are printed conductive paths for each of the leads of the several (usually four) pairs in a connector jack, and the board may accommodate several such jacks. The conductive paths are routed in a manner to create facing inductive loop portions which are substantially mirror images of each other to produce inductive interaction among the different pair combinations. Capacitive coupling is also used in one embodiment.
