Abstract:
A scheme for determining which of a set of taps that can potentially be used to measure a channel impulse response should be used to estimate the channel impulse response.

Abstract:
A signal receiver is arranged to process a portion of a received signal in each of a plurality of filter branches and to determine a quality metric for each branch. The configuration of a second filter for processing the entirety of the received signal is subsequently performed according to the determined quality metrics.
Abstract:
A communications signal is received through a propagation channel, down-converted in frequency and then converted into a digital signal. The samples of the digital signal are processed to estimate the information conveyed by the communications signal. The estimated information is then used with knowledge about the propagation channel to model the samples of the digital signal. The modeled samples are compared with actual samples of the digital signal to deduce phase errors in the digital signal. The phase errors are then used to deduce a frequency error in the digital signal that can be used to correct the samples of the digital signal and to correct the down-conversion process.

Abstract:
This invention (The Kelp Klip) provides a natural looking, less time consuming way to feed marine fish and other herbivorous animals as well as fresh water fishes. Instead of attaching to the side of the aquarium glass of acrylic, it is a hands-free way of feeding. It resembles a real marine algae that will not reveal the feeding of fish and other animals. This invention will give a more natural appearance than other aquatic feeding devices. This invention can be adjusted to be used in virtually any depth in an aquarium by adding additional extensions. This invention will also eliminate the hurdle of getting hands and arms wet when placing into and retrieving from an aquarium. They way in which the seaweed is held by the Kelp Klip will minimize the amount of seaweed lost to filters and will reduce fouling of the water in an aquarium.
Abstract:
Some embodiments include methods of forming openings in which a metal-containing structure is formed over a region of a semiconductor substrate. A patterned metal-containing material is formed over the metal-containing structure, with the metal-containing material having a gap extending therethrough. An entirety of the metal-containing structure is removed through the gap to leave an opening over the region of the semiconductor substrate. The region of the semiconductor substrate may comprise CMOS sensors, and one or both of filter material and microlens material may be formed within the opening.
Abstract:
Point source responses of pinhole apertures in a non-uniform grid mask used to spatially calibrate a gamma camera can be modeled as a two-dimensional Gaussian function with a set of seven parameters. The Gaussian parameters can be measured using a surface-fitting algorithm that seeks minimum error in the least squares sense. The process is repeated for data from each pinhole location and the data are added together to generate a complete model of the flood image from the mask, which then can be used in a peak detection process for clinical images.
Abstract:
In a transaction authorisation arrangement a sales point (1) (an electronic point of sale device or a vending machine, for example) communicates with a transaction application (2) transmitting thereto a transaction value. The telephony platform (3) reserves one of a series of premium rate numbers (5) which can be dialled up by a mobile telephone user to authorise the charging of the transaction against the telephone bill. When a call is received at the premium rate number the telephony platform notifies the transaction application which then authorises the sale.
