摘要:
A method for extending the life of a cutting tool includes shot peening the surface of the tool, including all cutting edges thereof, with substantially spherical shot peening media of glass beads. Maximum life extension is achieved by optimizing the parameters of the peening process, including the Almen intensity and the shot size and uniformity. Cutting tools, especially steel tools, shot peened in accordance with the present method display many-fold increases in life.

A bracket system enabling secure attachment and access of a ladder thereto a flatbed type trailer used with tractor-trailer rigs is herein disclosed, comprising two (2) generally square metal plates. One (1) side of the metal plate is provided with a narrow “U”-shaped cut-out which slides over a rub rail feature typically provided around the perimeter of a flatbed trailer. The exterior portion of each plate is then bolted to the side rails of a ladder. The plates are located so the ladder is completely supported and the bottom of the ladder is positioned approximately one (1) foot off of grade to allow use of the bracket system on any type of terrain.

A clamp includes a pair of relatively movable clamping members carrying clamping pods for engaging articles and holding them together. One of the members includes an arm having larger and smaller cross-sectional portions with a bore extending therethrough. The other member includes an arm which slidably engages the arm of the other member through a tongue-and-groove connection. A bore in the arm of the other member is coaxial with the bore in the other member. A rotatable fastener extends through one of the boxes and is threadedly engaged with the other bore. The larger cross-sectional area stiffens the member at its weakest point thereby permitting materials such as plastic to be used in the manufacture of the clamp. The tongue-and-groove connection assures alignment of the members during clamping.

A method for improving the release and finish characteristics of metal stamping dies includes shot peening the interior die cavity walls with substantially spherical shot having a hardness value at least equal to the hardness value of the die cavity walls. Optimizing the parameters of the peening process, such as the Almen intensity and the shot type, size, hardness and uniformity, maximizes the improvement to the release and finish characteristics of the die. Optionally, the initial shot peening is followed by a second shot peening with substantially spherical glass beads. Metal stamping dies shot peened in accordance with the present method exhibit substantial improvement in their release and finish characteristics over unpeened dies.
