    摘要: A steady bearing for the free end of a mixer shaft, which may be made from composite (fiber reinforced plastic) materials in substantial part, has a generally bell-shaped body with a neck in which the free end of the shaft or a shaft extension is disposed. A bearing assembly is removably disposed in the neck. The bearing has a bushing which is keyed to an inner sleeve around the shaft and to an outer sleeve by keyways which are open at one end so that the bushing and outer sleeve can be axially displaced for initial installation of the steady bearing and also when the bushing thereof requires replacement. When the shaft is too large to fit inside of the steady bearing. A reduced diameter shaft extension is provided to fit the steady bearing.

    摘要: An improved immersible magnetically-coupled mixer has a plurality of rollable bearing assemblies readily cleanable by flushing in place and easily removable and replaceable without damage to either the mixer impeller or the bearings. The rollable bearings are resistant to corrosion, capable of running without lubrication, and have low propensity for batch contamination through wear. The rolling and fixed elements of the bearings are impervious to attack by the process materials being mixed, the rollable elements, preferably balls, can be formed of a hybrid ceramic such as silicon nitride, and the races can be formed of a nickel-beryllium or cobalt-chromium-tungsten alloy. A mixer impeller having a central bore is rotatably mounted at the upper end of the bore on the rollable bearings on an adapter collar receivable over an end of a fixed impeller shaft attached to the inner wall of a vessel at the bottom of the mixing space, which shaft may be on existing mixer shaft, thus requiring no modification of the shaft to retrofit the impeller assembly. The impeller contains magnets and is couplable in driving relationship to an external magnetic mixer drive. The bearings are exposed to the liquid in the vessel during agitation, and the impeller provides a continual flow of liquid across the bearing balls and races and the adapter collar, preventing formation of stagnant areas of process materials within the mixer assembly and permitting cleaning of all mixer surfaces by flushing.

    摘要: A mixer impeller, which is adapted to mix and blend liquids and liquid suspensions in industrial and commmercial applications and is subject to forces which tend to work the impeller loose from attachment with its driving shaft, is secured to the shaft by collars (locking rings) which are threaded on the ends of hubs from which the blades of the impeller extend. In order to secure the attachment of the collars to the hub, a locking key is inserted between the collar and the shaft. The inner periphery of the collars are tapered outwardly away from the shaft. The neck of the locking key has portions which are deflected against these tapered inner peripheries when a pin is inserted through the neck of the locking key. A ramp on the collar mates with a ramp on the key to prevent reverse rotation (working loose) of the collar. The impeller is restrained against axial movement by the collar and against rotational movement by being keyed to the shaft and restricted by the ramp on the collar. Removal of the key for impeller replacement and maintenance is readily accomplished using the ramps on the surfaces of the collars and shoulder of the key which bear against each other. Upon removal of the locking pin, the inside of the neck deflects inwardly and the key is urged out of the collar, when the collar is unscrewed from the hub.

    摘要: In a first embodiment of a camshaft phaser, the rotor is split along an equatorial plane thereof, defining first and second rotor portions. A resilient seal is compressively disposed between the rotor portions to prevent leakage therebetween and to urge the rotor vanes against the cover plate and sprocket surfaces to prevent leakage around the vanes. Preferably, the seal includes radial seal elements to seal against the stator wall. Preferably, pressurized hydraulic fluid can enter between the first and second rotor portions and thereby assist the resilient seal in urging the rotor portions apart. In a second embodiment, the rotor is not split, and a resilient seal is provided on at least one axial face of the rotor vanes to seal the rotor vanes against the cover plate and sprocket surfaces.

    摘要: A lifter oil manifold assembly for variable actuation of engine valves having first (top) and second (valve) plates having portions of oil control and oil exhaust passages formed therein. The assembly further includes a carrier member having an oil supply passage integrated thereby separating the oil supply path from the oil control and oil exhaust path. Further, the assembly includes towers for receiving and positioning the electro-magnetic oil control valves used to control oil flow in the assembly. The towers are molded separate from the carrier and are held in place by the valve plate or are molded integral with the carrier. In another aspect of the invention, oil control valve retention springs are molded integral with either the tower or the oil control valve. In a further aspect of the invention, a combined polymer restrictor/strainer in the oil circuit replaces a prior art metal die-cast restrictor.

    摘要: An improved splined cam phaser includes four assemblies: a sprocket assembly, an inner hub assembly, a cover assembly, and a piston assembly. The joined assemblies provide phaser function at reduced manufacturing cost. The component parts of the assemblies are re-configured from analogous parts in the prior art cam phaser to permit much of the improved phaser to be manufactured inexpensively by powdered metal forming or by stamping or drawing from sheet metal, in contrast with the prior art phaser wherein all parts are formed expensively either by machining from forged blanks or by investment casting. These changes reduce not only the cost of manufacture but also reduce the weight and axial length of the phaser, an important customer acceptance criterion, and improve the speed of response. Further, the proportions of some parts are altered such that all radial and axial loads are borne by a single large bearing in place of two small sequential bearings in the prior art phaser, thus reducing variability in axial alignment of the component parts.

    摘要: A target wheel for a camshaft phaser stamped and drawn from sheet metal stock. The hub region of the target wheel may be drawn such that it extends through the phaser cover plate and seals directly against the face of the rotor, allowing a shorter cam bolt and resulting in reduction in mass and cost of the phaser. Alternatively, a separate hub is formed and then attached to a simplified stamped and drawn target wheel, or a target wheel hub is formed integrally with the rotor and extends through the cover plate to mate with a simplified stamped and drawn target wheel. Preferably, the hub is formed having a neck extending through a central opening in the target wheel, which neck is peened over during assembly to secure the wheel to the hub.

A target wheel axial extension having a plurality of barbs is entered into the bore to fix the target wheel to the rotor, both axially and rotationally, prior to assembly of the rotor into a phaser stator during manufacture of the phaser. Simple gauge blocks or a fixture can be used to index the target wheel to the rotor such that all such rotor/wheel subassemblies are substantially identical, to a high degree of precision. Alternatively, the axial extension may be formed without barbs, the extension inserted into the rotor bore, and then the extension immobilized as by stamping of the barbs, tack welding, or the like. For another example, the axial extension may be formed as a separate intermediate barbed retainer that engages both the rotor bore and the target wheel.

    摘要: A fast-acting rotor-locking mechanism for a vane-type camshaft phaser. A straight-sided locking pin is disposed in a bushing in the rotor and is urged into a sprocket well by a return spring. A pad disposed at the bottom of the well is a travel stop for the pin. When the pin is fully seated against the pad, the pad covers a portion of the end of the pin. The uncovered portion of the pin end, exposed to oil pressure for unlocking the pin when it is fully seated, is decreased over the prior art pin, permitting use of a lighter locking spring having a lower spring rate. Because of the lighter locking spring, the pin accelerates more rapidly and unlocks significantly faster than in a comparable prior art phaser.
