    摘要: An ultrasonic surgical instrument for dissection and coagulation of tissue is provided. The surgical instrument includes a vibration coupler supported within a housing and operably connected to an ultrasonic generator. An angled blade member is connected to the distal end of the vibration coupler to conduct high frequency vibration from the ultrasonic generator to the blade member. A clamp member is positioned adjacent to the blade member and is movable from a first position to a second approximated position. The clamp member and angled blade member combine to enhance contact between the tissue and the blade member during operation of the instrument to improve the performance of the instrument.

    摘要: In a discectomy method one removes at least a substantial portion of a spinal disc. Thereafter one operates an ultrasonic instrument to level opposing faces of vertebrae on opposite sides of the removed spinal disc. Graft or synthetic disc material is inserted between the vertebrae so that the graft or synthetic disc material is in contact with the leveled opposing faces. In an associated nucleotomy, a cannulated probe is inserted into a spinal disc and used to remove the nucleus pulposus. A synthetic or substitute nucleus material may then be inserted into the evacuated annulus.

    摘要: A tranducer assembly for an ultrasonic surgical instrument includes a front driver having an elongate shaft in one direction and a stud extending in an opposite direction. An electromechanical transducer element is disposed around the stud. The transducer assembly also comprises a rear driver disposed around the stud on a side of the electromechanical transducer element opposite the front driver, the electromechanical transducer element being clamped between the front driver and the rear driver. An inertial or damping mass is fixedly connected to the stud at a point spaced from the rear driver. The stud is of length and thinness to act as a flexible vibration damping element.

    摘要: A fingerprint capture or processing apparatus incorporates a casing defining a sealable chamber, a first support in the chamber for holding a source of a chemical fingerprint fixative agent, a second support in the chamber for holding an article to be tested for fingerprints, a filtration system connected to the chamber for removing contaminants from air in the chamber, and an air circulation assembly operatively connected to the casing for circulating air from the chamber and through the filtration system. Preferably, the air circulation assembly is a closed system, ensuring that no contaminants will be spilled to the ambient atmosphere prior to complete cleansing of the air inside the casing. A humidity control device may be connected to the air circulation assembly for modifying a humidity level in the chamber to a predetermined relative humidity, thus optimizing effectiveness of the chemical fingerprint fixation agent.

    摘要: An ultrasonic sonication device includes a velocity transformer or probe which, when coupled to a vibrating transducer of the piezoelectric or magnetostrictive type, resonates in sympathy with the transducer and either increases or decreases the magnitude of the transducer's vibration. A shallow cup assembly is attached to the distal end of the probe. The cup assembly holds a microtiter tray in a suitable orientation and contains an amount of liquid which provides efficient acoustic coupling between a transverse end face of the probe and the microtiter tray.
