摘要: An electrowetting display device comprises a plurality of picture elements (2) having a first support plate (5) including a surface (68) and a second support plate. A space (10) of a picture element between the surface of the first support plate and the second support plate includes at least one first fluid and a second fluid immiscible with each other, the second fluid being electroconductive or polar. The first support plate includes an electrode (46) for applying an electric field in the picture element. It also includes a layer (44) arranged on a side of the electrode facing away from said space. The layer forms an electronic component (33) for applying a voltage to the electrode. The electrode comprises a height difference (86) corresponding to a thickness of the layer (44). The height difference causes an inhomogeneous electric field in the space, providing a preferred direction of motion of the first fluid on application of the electric field.

摘要: A transflective display device has a viewing side (7) and a rear side (8) and comprises a plurality of electrowetting elements (2) having a first support plate (5) facing the viewing side and a second support plate (6) facing the rear side. Each electrowetting element comprises a space (10) between the first support plate and the second support plate and includes a first fluid (11) and a second fluid (12) immiscible with each other. The second fluid absorbs at least a part of the optical spectrum. The position of the second fluid is controllable to cover a predetermined area (30) of the cross-section (29) of the space in the plane of the second support plate. A structured reflector (18) is arranged on the second support plate, comprising within the cross-section an area (33, 34) transparent for light incident from the rear side and an area (35, 36) reflective for light incident from the viewing side. The transparent area and the reflective area are arranged such that the predetermined area (30) covered by the second fluid covers the same proportion of the transparent area and the reflective area.

摘要: A display device comprising picture elements, which are constituted by electrowetting elements having at least one first fluid and a second fluid immiscible with each other within a space between a first support plate and a second support plate, the second fluid being electro-conductive or polar. The first fluid in each element is at the side of the first support plate confined by element walls, and the second fluid is shared by a plurality of picture elements, characterised by a preventer for preventing first fluid portions from being expelled from its confinement when forces other than electrowetting forces are exerted on this fluid.

摘要: A display panel comprises a plurality of pixels (1-4; 22; 57). Each of the pixels (1-4; 22; 57) comprises a plurality of sub-pixel elements (5-9; 31-46; 48-56) occupying respective continuous sub-pixel element areas within a pixel area. At least two non-adjacent sub-pixel elements (5,7; 45, 46; 52,53) are coupled to receive substantially a same driving signal. The coupling may be realized via a conductor (21) or by coupling the at least two non-adjacent sub-pixel elements (5,7; 45,46; 52,53) to respective driver circuits receiving substantially a same input signal.
