A disc brake having a brake shoe wear compensating mechanism in which the sealing gaskets for the operating chamber formed between a pair of spreading members are arranged to be elastically deformable during a brake application, so as to exert a return force during a brake release. A joining element is provided between the spreading members, which utilizes a spring and the friction connection between the joining element and one of the spreading members to exert a return force independently of the return force exerted by the sealing gaskets, to thereby assure a sufficient brake release stroke.

A process is disclosed for restoring brake pressure in a brake of a motor vehicle having an antilock brake system which subjects the brake to a brake regulating cycle. The brake regulating cycle comprises a pressure reduction phase, wherein the brake pressure is reduced from a deregulating pressure P.sub.max to a holding pressure P.sub.min, a pressure maintenance phase, wherein the holding pressure P.sub.min is maintained in the brake, and a pressure restoration phase, wherein the brake pressure in the brake is increased. According to the invention, during the pressure restoration phase the brake pressure is increased with a steep pressure gradient PG.sub.H during a first pressure increase stage until a pressure level P.sub.K is reached. Thereafter the brake pressure is increased with a low pressure gradient PG.sub.N in a second pressure increase stage. The steep pressure gradient PG.sub.H is calculated as a function of P.sub.max and P.sub.min of the last regulating cycle, while the low pressure gradient PG.sub.N is calculated as a function of P.sub.max of the last regulating cycle. Alternatively, PG.sub.H is calculated as a function of the average value of P.sub.max and P.sub.min for several previous regulating cycles, while PG.sub.N is calculated as the average value of P.sub.max for several previous regulating cycles.

A method for the braking of a vehicle train with pressure-actuated brakes and arrangements for performing this method are disclosed. The prior art shows that, because of a different rapid build-up of a braking pressure in the various rigid vehicles of a vehicle train, there occurs an overrun shock during adjustment transition shifting braking phases. According to one embodiment of the invention, there is furnished a lead and predominance by a predetermined value in the co-braking signal furnished from the one rigid vehicle to the second rigid vehicle of a vehicle train. According to a further embodiment, a predominance by a predetermined amount in the braking pressure in the second vehicle versus the co-braking signal is furnished, if during the preceding brake application actuation the overrun shock has surpassed a preset tolerance width. The invention can be applied in particular for vehicle trains made up of a motor vehicle and one or several trailers or semitrailers.

A dual electromagnetically actuated valve device for controlling the connection between a fluid pressure source and a consumer facility, and for controlling the pressure relief function for the consumer facility, and for providing a highly sensitive adjustment of the consumer pressure. The device operates with a high flow rate when the pressure difference between inlet pressure and consumer pressure is great, but prevents an overshoot or undershoot of the consumer pressure. The subject invention makes it possible to provide a sensitive adjustment of the consumer pressure in any normal consumer pressure range. The invention controls the cross-sectional opening of a pilot control valve to be continuously adjustable by employing a first electromagnetic control valve which is responsive to a declining current dependent stroke characteristic, and a second electromagnetic control valve which is responsive to a rising current dependent stroke characteristic.

A process for reducing yaw during braking in a vehicle having an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and traveling on a roadway having different coefficients of friction on opposite sides of the vehicle, is disclosed. The process comprises detecting the braking pressures in the wheels of the vehicle, calculating a permissible braking pressure difference, and adjusting the braking pressures in the wheel on the high friction side (high wheel) so as to maintain the permissible braking pressure difference. The permissible braking pressure difference is a variable value which depends mainly on the deregulating pressure (P.sub.max) at which the ABS begins to deregulate in the low wheel.
