The present invention also is directed to a method of inducing an immune response against a hepatitis B antigen (e.g., an antigen from a hepatitis B virus) in a mammal, which comprises administering to the mammal a priming composition (e.g., a DNA plasmid), comprising a source of one or more epitopes of the hepatitis B target antigen. In addition, the present invention is directed to compositions for use in the methods of the present invention.
