摘要: A catheter is provided which is disposed for insertion into a fluid-containing cavity of a patient, such as a ventricle of the patient's brain, to drain CSF therefrom. The catheter includes an elongated body provided with a cross-section having an outer surface which is smooth and free of projections, angles or the like which could damage adjacent brain tissue. The elongated body is further provided with proximal and distal ends, a first lumen disposed to serve as a fluid flow passage, and a second lumen extending past a given position located on the elongated body. A titanium wire element is inserted into the second lumen for enabling a neurosurgeon to readily select and adjust the angular orientation between first and second catheter segments, wherein the first and second segments comprise the portions of the elongated body extending between the given position and the proximal and distal ends, respectively. Reinforcing structure is provided around the elongated body to prevent an end of the wire from pushing or rupturing therethrough.

摘要: An apparatus and method for introducing material into an injection site of a patient is disclosed. The device includes a cannula and a carrier. The cannula is inserted into an injection site of a patient. The carrier is connected to an injector containing a volume of material. Material may be pre-loaded into the carrier so that the material is delivered to a distal end of the carrier from the injector and the carrier is thus pre-loaded with material. A portion of the distal end of the pre-loaded carrier is inserted into the cannula and material is delivered to an injection site. The supply section can be rotatable with respect to the longitudinal axis of the inner section.

摘要: A curable material delivery cannula device is disclosed. The device includes a cannula and a hub. The cannula includes an open proximal end, a deflectable segment forming a pre-set curve, a lumen, and side orifice(s) adjacent, and proximally spaced from, the distal end and fluidly connected to the lumen. When inserted within a guide cannula, the deflectable segment straightens. When distally extended from the guide cannula, the deflectable segment reverts to the curved shape. The distal end has a blunt tip for non-traumatic interface with bodily material. During use, curable material, such as bone cement, is delivered from the side orifice(s) in a radial direction relative to the lumen.

摘要: A method and apparatus for use in coronary bypass surgery procedures wherein the heart remains beating rather than completely stopping the heart, where a blockage is located in the blood vessel for the heart and an incision is made in the vessel adjacent the blockage for the grafting of a vein from another location in the patient's body, and an intraluminal shunt is inserted into the blood vessel to retain the vessel open and allow blood flow through the vessel but prevent blood flow on the exterior of the shunt. The intraluminal shunt comprises a primary perfusion tube having an enlarged bulb or occluder adjacent each end of the tube to cooperate with the interior surface of the vessel, and a secondary perfusion tube intersecting the primary tube at a point either intermediate between the ends of the primary tube or at a location providing a one-third/two-thirds ratio along the primary tube. In the instance of an intermediate secondary tube, the ends of the primary tube extend beyond the bulbs to terminate in beveled end surfaces. The secondary tube is provided with a cap and the ability to interface the secondary tube with a luer type fitting and may be extended beyond the chest wall of the patient.

摘要: A drainage system for use in the drainage of ventricles of a patient's brain or of the patient's lumbar region and which is connected to a catheter inserted in either the ventricles or lumbar region and secured to the patient, the system including tubing from the catheter, a four-way stopcock inserted into the tubing followed by a Y-connector providing a needle-less sampling site, and a one-way valve, a length of flexible tubing leading from the one-way valve to a burette clamped within a sliding panel mounted on a support panel, suspension means for the support panel onto an IV pole, said sliding panel being in frictional contact with the support panel so as to remain in adjusted position on the support panel, and a drainage bag connected to the bottom of said burette to receive the collected fluid from the burette after it is measured. A four-way high flow stopcock is positioned between the burette and drainage bag, and the support panel is provided with two pairs of keyhole slots vertically spaced thereon for ease of replacement of a full drainage bag with an empty drainage bag. Also, a combination bubble level and measuring tape is provided with bent end on the extendable tape for connection to one of a pair of slits in the support panel for ease of system leveling by personnel in surgery.
