    摘要: An anti-energy diversion system for mounting underneath the cover of a standard electric utility meter in order to sense common meter tampering events and indicate the occurrence of such events. A non-battery energy storage circuit extracts energy from the AC power line available in the meter to power the system even during power outages. A flashbulb associated with a heat sensitive indelible indicator is coupled to the energy storage circuit when any one of several tamper event sensor switches are closed. When a tamper event is sensed, a brilliant flash of light is discharged and the appearance of the indelible indicator is transformed.

    摘要: A circuit module for general use in microcomputer based systems, such as time-of-use electronic utility meters, which maintains realtime clock calendar information even through long term power outages of 12 hours or more without the use of batteries. Realtime computations are protected by combining a very low power realtime clock calendar integrated circuit with a large capacitor as a secondary power source. The circuit module provides a reference clock calendar for the associated microcomputer. The module includes a capacitor charging circuit deriving power from a primary power source, a crystal oscillator time base circuit and a memory read/write protect circuit. During a power failure the capacitor, which is disconnected from the primary power source, supplies to the module the necessary power to maintain valid realtime computations. At the end of the outage when line power returns, the capacitor is quickly recharged and the non-degraded realtime clock calendar database is available to be transferred to the associated microcomputer to re-establish realtime processing.

    摘要: A postage meter printing apparatus for applying postage indicia to a mailpiece having a cyclically operating drum for feeding the mailpiece through the postage meter. The periphery of the drum has an aperture therein. Structure is provided for maintaining the mailpiece against the drum as the mailpiece is fed by the drum and for cycling the drum at a low rotational speed during a part of the cycle when a low-speed printing process is taking place and high rotational speeds during a higher speed printing process and of the remainder of the cycle thereby providing means for obtaining maximum overall cycle speeds while accommodating the low-speed requirements of the slower printing process. A matrix print head for the low-speed process is located internal to the drum having a printing position and a non-printing position, the print head is automatically placed adjacent the mailpiece through the aperture in the drum to its printing position when the aperture is between the print head and mailpiece. Structure is also provided to activate the print head when it is in its printing position.

A matrix print head located internal to the drum has a printing position and non-printing position. The print head is a matrix print head of impact or other type and includes a cooperating ribbon either inked or other to print on the mailpiece. The inked ribbon is contained in a replaceable cartridge. Structure is provided to activate the print head when it is in its printing position. The circumference of the drum may be fitted with a letterpress printing plate to allow simultaneous matrix printing of variable data and conventional rotary letterpress printing of repetitive data.

    摘要: A value selection system for a postage meter includes a plurality of print wheels rotatably mounted within a print drum. The print drum is coupled to be driven to rotate such that selected print elements on each of the print wheels are moved to imprint a postage value on a mail piece or other postage imprint receiving surface. The print wheels are selectively positioned by a print wheel value selection mechanism which is operable to set the print wheels during any time within a printing cycle except when the actual imprint is being impressed. The mechanism is operable to move the print wheels when the print drum is at rest and when the print drum is in motion. The position of the print wheels and the print drum may be monitored to account for the printing of postage by the meter.
